Founded in 1985, BKSK is a NYC-based firm specializing in socially, contextually and ecologically engage design.
关于我们
Established in 1985, BKSK is a 4-partner, 40-person design firm based in New York City. As architects and scholars of the environment, both built and natural, we believe that great design has meaning and consequence. What we build, how we build it, and how it is used, matters. We create meaningful, thoughtful, and beautiful works of architecture. We are specialists in socially engaging, contextually appropriate, and environmentally conscious design. We have developed our expertise by truly listening to, and learning from, our clients, the community, and each other. Our projects include cultural, community, and educational institutions. Our practice has taught us that in the civic realm, we play an important role—not only as an architect but as an advocate for the building initiative. We work closely with institutions to articulate the importance of the project within the community, to donors, and to public agencies.

New photos of West Village Townhouse! BKSK renovated this 5-story townhouse for a young family in the West Village. The ground floor features a loft-inspired design with an open floor plan connecting the foyer, living room, dining room, and kitchen. The kitchen is framed on one side with a folding glass wall that opens fully, providing ready access to an intimate rear yard during nice weather. The modern stair features dark wood and metal, and a unique, delicate woven leather railing detail. On the second floor, the living room opens onto a glass block terrace floor, flooding the kitchen below with natural light. The most intimate areas of the home, the bathrooms and master suite, evoke warmth and simplicity with a touch of whimsy, as color, pattern, and texture are used to complement the neutral architectural palette. BKSK is thrilled to announce that we have received a Public Design Commission (PDC) Award of Excellence for "A Bit of Everything," an exhibition by artist Misha Kahn, to be showcased at the Douglaston-Little Neck Queens Public Library. ? The exhibition features a distinctive blend of art and design. As a child, Misha Kahn was inspired by his own experiences visiting the local public library: “I would wander through the seemingly endless rows of stacks and pick up unexpected books to discover new stories, histories, and characters. For me, the library was a safe space, a community center and grounds for discovery all in one. I think the element of surprise and unexpected discovery is the part that really gives a library its true magic.” His new creation "A Bit of Everything" aims to capture this essence by using shapes that evoke aspects of the community and forms inspired by the stories and information contained within the library. ? Congratulations to the entire design team, as we look forward to watching the project come to life!? ? Last week, BKSK welcomed Architect and Professor, David T. Fortin, along with architectural students from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada to visit the BKSK office and learn more about the Tammany Hall roof design. The building's restoration and expansion included a 3-story rooftop addition, composed of a self-supporting free form shell grid dome atop a reconstructed hipped roof of steel-and-glass. It was a pleasure to share our design process with the group, and it is always rewarding to see the emergence of the next generation of architects. #BKSKApplause #NYCDesign #ArchitecturalDesign #TammanyHall?#AdaptiveReuse #Preservation

We attended the annual Battery Conservancy Luncheon earlier this month. It’s always a treat to be with our friends at The Battery Conservancy and support their hard work and vision in a space we have been lucky enough to help craft! Hooray for the Battery’s longstanding efforts to preserve, protect and beautify the lower Manhattan waterfront. Pictured: Joan Krevlin #celebration #fundraising #conservancy #batteryplayscape ??? A party to support The Battery’s gardeners, amongst 240,000 sq ft of perennial gardens! Thank you to all who joined us at Tuesday’s Battery Gardeners’ Luncheon, celebrating Plants and Play. We brought together garden lovers, Playscape supporters, and Lower Manhattan’s finest neighbors for a fabulous party to support our 25-acre paradise of plants. It’s not too late to support The Battery Conservancy, the non-profit organization that maintains, operates, and programs the public park at the southern tip of Manhattan. Visit the link in our bio to find out how you can get involved. #thebatterynyc #nycparks #downtownnyc
