MORE Sketchy behaviors of tech startup founders: The Inflated Titles: Gives themselves and their two-person team lofty titles like "Chief Visionary Officer" or "Head of Future Disruption" while the only actual work happening is in a shared apartment. "Our Runway Is Unlimited": Claims their company has "infinite runway" thanks to "efficient spending practices," but the office still consists of folding tables, mismatched chairs, and a coffee budget larger than their R&D fund. The Vaporware Demo: Builds a flashy product demo that’s more slideshow than software, with half the features being Photoshop mockups or unclickable UI. Buzzword Overload: Packs every pitch and press release with the latest tech buzzwords like "AI-driven blockchain metaverse" without ever explaining what the company actually does. The Endless Incubator Circuit: Spends years hopping from one startup incubator to another, collecting coffee mugs and mentor contacts while progress on the business stalls. Fake-It-Till-You-Burn-Out: Puts up a fa?ade of 16-hour hustle days with "grind" posts on social media, but rarely appears in the office before 11 AM, if at all. The Over-Optimistic Roadmap: Promises every feature under the sun for their next product iteration, including things that aren't remotely related to their core offering – then announces "delays" every quarter. Unclear Corporate Structure: Structures the company with multiple LLCs, not for profit's, shell companies, and offshore accounts, explaining that it's for "tax efficiency" and "strategic flexibility." Fake Partnerships: Claims partnerships with tech giants like Google and Microsoft, which upon scrutiny turn out to be nothing more than subscribing to their cloud services or buying ad credits.
