A new report from Anne Morris Reid and colleagues at GWU’s Funders Forum on Accountable Health highlights innovative local efforts in Baltimore and Cincinnati. These initiatives show the power of early intervention, trust-building, collective action, and evidence-driven solutions. ?? Breaking News: Reproductive Rights Groups Sue Louisiana Over New Controlled Substances Law ?? In a powerful stand for reproductive healthcare, a coalition of reproductive rights organizations has filed a lawsuit against Louisiana’s new law that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as controlled substances. This law complicates access to essential medications widely used not only for abortion but also for managing postpartum hemorrhage, miscarriage, and other critical health needs. As maternal health disparities persist, particularly for Black women in Louisiana, the need for accessible, life-saving care has never been more urgent. This lawsuit highlights the growing fight to protect healthcare access and ensure that no person is denied timely, essential treatment. "Restricting access to these medications doesn’t just undermine reproductive rights—it endangers lives," advocates argue. This case is about more than medicine—it’s about our collective commitment to health equity, patient safety, and the protection of our communities. ??
