Ace the ACT with the Birmingham Public Library! The ACT test is often required for college admissions and scholarships, yet it is a dreaded and anxiety-filled experience for many high school students.?The Birmingham Public Library is ready to help with our free ACT Prep workshop on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Springville Road Regional Branch Library, 1224 Springville Rd.?Attendees will learn test-taking strategies, take a full-length practice ACT exam, and receive a free calculator.?Lunch will be provided. Tickets are required, and available through Eventbrite (https://lnkd.in/euDD4uUH). This free workshop is made possible through a partnership between the Jefferson County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Sorority and The Birmingham Public Library. In conjunction with the City of Birmingham offices, the Birmingham Public Library will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025, due to the threat of inclement weather. The library will also be closed on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Everyone stay safe.

“Classic Cocktails: Let Loose in the Library” is set to take place from 5:30-9 pm tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 22, at downtown’s Central Library. If you haven’t purchased your ticket, now is the time! This event will SELL OUT, purchase tickets on Eventbrite at BIT.LY/BPLCC24 Among the many fun things scheduled for tomorrow’s event is a spirits tasting showcasing products from two local companies. Representatives from Sweet Home Spirits and Red Eye Louies will be on hand to wow guests with their yummy creations. The Leeds-based Sweet Home Spirits crafts several versions of Bourbon Whiskey, while Red Eye Louies specializes in unique Tequila-based blends, including their Vodquila, Rumquila, Whisquila, and Plata Tequila. The spirits tasting will take place in the Atrium from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A kickoff party for the Magic City Classic football game, “Classic Cocktail: Let Loose in the Library” will also feature signature drinks, tailgate-style food, a cigar lounge, a photo booth, and dancing backed by DJ Christin French.

Join us for our next Printmaking 101 Class! The next class is at the Central Library on Saturday, October 12, 12:00–1:00 p.m., in the Create205 Lab?on the 2nd floor of the East Building. No prior experience with printmaking or art is required! All ages are welcome, & all necessary supplies are provided. Patrons will carve rubber blocks to create their print, so the process will not be strenuous?? This class is free & open to the public, BUT registration is required. It is limited to the 1st 10 participants who register. Register on the program's Calendar entry to attend the class.
