On February 12, 2025, a Bird Marella team comprised of?Ekwan Rhow,?Oliver Rocos,?Brandon Teachout, and?paralegal Tamara Sybel?won a unanimous federal jury verdict in San Francisco before Judge Edward Chen. The $8.1 million jury verdict followed four years of hard-fought litigation over claims brought by Bird Marella’s client, the former CEO of a real estate technology company venture, against Freedom Mortgage, a multibillion-dollar mortgage company and its owner, for fraudulently inducing him to join the venture. Against a team from Williams & Connolly, Bird Marella convinced the jury to find the defendants liable for both fraud and breach of contract and, most critically, that there was no basis to terminate Bird Marella’s client for cause.?Additional proceedings will now follow to determine attorney’s fees and further damages that will comprise the final judgment in this matter.
