关于我们
Oregon wouldn’t be Oregon without Bird Alliance. For more than 100 years, Bird Alliance of Oregon (formerly Portland Audubon) has played an instrumental role in shaping the beautiful lands we call home, from establishing our first Wildlife Refuges, to helping make Portland one of the greenest cities in the country. Through advocacy, education, habitat restoration and volunteerism, Bird Alliance of Oregon works every day to inspire people to love and protect birds and the natural world, building a community dedicated to creating a sustainable future for all life. Connect with us by visiting our 172 acre wildlife sanctuary in NW Portland, learning about wildlife and the natural world at one of our camps, classes or trips, advocating to protect Oregon's forest, grassland, wetland, desert and urban habitat, and volunteering to help protect birds, other wildlife and their habitat.

Yesterday, our Executive Director, Marianne, joined Bird Alliance of Oregon’s Micah Meskel for an interview with KGW-TV to discuss PGE’s Harborton Reliability Project, and the concerns both of our organizations share regarding the project. Keep an eye out for this piece when it airs in the near future. Marianne had this to say on the experience: “I spent the morning touring the area where PGE is proposing to clear 5 acres of trees in north Forest Park. Thank you to KGW for showing interest in this story and to Micah for teaching us about the birds in this area. We saw cedar waxwings enjoying berries and stellar jays who squawked hello. On a previous visit, earlier in the morning, Micah and his team identified 42 species of birds in this important habitat area. Getting to see and hear about all of these species was a great reminder of just how important this area is to the many species that live there. We at FPC have major concerns about the effect on wildlife, and the rest of the local ecosystem, that the Harborton Reliability Project could have, and we have heard from our community that they are concerned as well. We will continue to keep up to date as this process continues so that we can advocate for the park and everything that calls it home.” Through the next few months, PGE will be hosting in-person events for the public to learn more about their plans. We encourage you to attend these events, ask them your questions, and voice your concerns. PGE is in the process of completing their application, and after that happens the public comment period will begin. We will keep you updated when that public comment period begins.

Between April 15 and May 19, TWC and the?Bird Alliance of Oregon are?asking Oregonians to turn off unnecessary lighting - especially outdoor lighting - to reduce light pollution that may interfere with critical bird migration. Birds in flight can mistake artificial lights for reflections off bodies of water like the ones they?rely on to?rest and feed, and descend mistakenly into urban spaces.?Across the US, nearly 1 billion birds die every year as a result of hitting a window. A few best practices from the Bird Alliance of Oregon here: https://lnkd.in/emfFih8J
