BIO has filed an amicus brief in the California Supreme Court, encouraging its review of the lower court decision in the Gilead Tenofovir Cases. The Court of Appeal decision (1) operates from a misunderstanding of the drug development and FDA approval processes and (2) would disincentivize innovation, particularly the development of next-generation drug compounds. FUTURE OF HEALTH....Today I spoke on a panel at the opening session of the Future of Health Summit sponsored by the Milken Institute. Meg Tirrell from CNN moderated a lively discussion and was superb as always! I emphasized that we are at the dawn of a new golden age of science and medicine. And the days of a doctor telling a patient or parents of a child that "I am sorry, there is nothing we can do" is simply no longer acceptable. "Why do we care about biotechnology? Of course we care for the public health; the potential to control and prevent disease, to alleviate an enormous suffering around the world; we care about economic security and a healthy and productive workforce. And we care as a matter of national security." #MIHealthSummit #biotechnology #science
