It’s no surprise that global tariffs have been the story of 2025 so far. With so many businesses game-planning for what the future will look like with new tariffs, now is a good time to address the facts. Here's what to expect: 1?? An additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports is currently in effect. 2?? China has implemented a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas products as well as a 10% tariff on crude oil imported from the United States, starting today. 3?? A 25% tariff on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico has been delayed until March 6. 4?? The Canadian tariffs include a provision for energy resources. This includes refined products, such as base oils, which will instead be subject to a 10% ad valorem rate of duty. As the potential for a trade war gains more steam, understanding the implications and the options available will be critical to supply chain success. Identifying and engaging a supplier with a true understanding of market dynamics and how to navigate these rough waters can help secure an uninterrupted supply of materials with minimal cost fluctuation.
