?? Expanding Career Pathways in Bioscience! ?? The School of Continuing & Professional Studies at Washington University in St. Louis is launching a Bioscience Technology Certificate—a 16-week program designed for working adults to enter high-demand lab jobs. BioSTL is proud to help shape the curriculum alongside local businesses and fund tuition grants to expand access. As our own Sally Steuterman, manager of scientific training partnerships, says: ?? “Students are often surprised by how many transferable skills they already possess. People who are detail-oriented, good with their hands, and like routine often do great in these positions.” With 3,600 bioscience employers in Missouri, this program is a great entry into a growing field. I didn't expect to get teary-eyed at last night's Innovators Hour event at BioSTL. BioSTL's James McCarter interviews bioscience startup leaders at this event and the quite personal story of Agragene Inc's Stephanie Gamez was remarkable. A young woman of immigrant parents, who wondered whether she'd be able to afford college, is now a PhD developing a pest control technology with huge implications for reducing chemical pesticides in fruit crops. Stephanie's mother now works in her lab helping tend her fruit flies!
