????The USA has gone and smashed it again in terms of its #bioeconomy and #biomanufacturing strategy???? ????A whopping $700 million for the development of next-generation biofuels and biochemicals???? https://lnkd.in/eszaAfPt The Biden-Harris administration has released a new report,?'Building a Vibrant Domestic Biomanufacturing Ecosystem', to advance #biotechnology and #biomanufacturing as part of a broader national bioeconomy implementation plan. ??$178 million for research efforts in the #innovative production of #nextgeneration #biofuels and #biochemicals ??$100 million for research and development for conversion of #biomass to fuels and #chemicals, including for improved production and #recycling of #biobased #plastics ??$120 million, to support the scale-up of biotechnology and biomanufacturing that will lead to #commercialisation of #biorefineries. ??$220 million will continue to accelerate expansion of domestic #biomanufacturing, via scale-up facilities ??$80 million for R&D to develop #sustainable #supplychains to produce conversion ready biomass and #waste #feedstocks to supply renewable carbon for the production of fuels and chemicals Globally, the current total value of the bioeconomy is estimated to be $4 trillion, and is projected to grow to $30 trillion by 2050. We desperately need the UK Government to recognise the benefits of the bioeconomy, and bio-based materials and products, with a dedicated long-term strategy. The power of #Glycolipids.

Will the next generation of CPG products be less about “bad out” and more about “good in?” – and how should this be communicated to the consumer? ______________________________ An investor friend of mine said that when speaking to a CPG rollup, they mentioned that while the last generation of hit products were focused on “bad out” – sugar out, carbs out, fats out, and even meat out – they believe the next generation will be all about “good in” Clean labels and “bad out” may now be default expectations, and “good in” such as fiber, pre/post-biotics, vitamins, etc. through targeted ingredients will help create breakout winners We’ve already seen this immensely with protein, as it seems almost every product is now infused with protein and slapped with a label in the front calling out how much protein is there (side note: there’s a totally different discussion to be had around protein deficiency in the western diet is just, flat out, NOT a thing, and many are overconsuming the macronutrient) ?Do I agree with this prediction? Yes, but….. I fully agree that companies will be able to win by adding functional ingredients to their (hopefully already) clean-label products, but I think real winners will think more deeply about how to communicate the purpose of those ingredients In a timely post by Marina on how to communicate nutrition and food to consumers, she emphasized the need to stay away from technicalities, and instead emphasize emotion, culture, and creativity (post in comments) When it comes to added functional ingredients, I feel that winning brands will stand out by being creative around how they market their SKUs. And the trend I expect to see more of is less of creating SKUs based on flavor, and more on creating SKUs based on function So instead of adding an ingredient to existing SKUs, it could look like this: ?? Increase energy SKU ?? Improve gut health SKU ?? Improve immunity SKU ?? Improve sleep SKU (cool one I’ve seen is Rest by MUD\WTR) ?? Decrease stress SKU ?? Etc So yes, I think “good in” is part of the next wave of winners, but I think brands that don't force (or expect) consumers to know the purpose of each individual ingredient will be the big winners It’s much easier for a consumer to think “I want to improve my gut health, so I’ll buy the gut health SKU” instead of expecting them to know the difference between pre- and post-biotics, how much fiber is helpful, what resistant starches are, the impact of fermented foods, etc. To summarize, “good in” will be a winner, and it will win more when brands allow consumers to buy based on emotion and experience instead of nutrition intellect What do you think?
