Studio Gang Aspen tree-inspired hotel ‘??????????????’ opens its doors in Denver, Colorado. Now complete, the 265-room hotel is defined by its biophilic facade whose openings mimic the eye-shaped marks of the state’s beloved #Aspen trees. The 265-room design is being promoted as the first ‘carbon-positive’ hotel development in the United States and features a combination of highly sustainable building materials and offsetting strategies that target a LEED Gold certification. Situated on a prominent site that connects civic, arts, and commercial districts, Populus opens itself up to the city and the Rocky Mountains beyond, positioning itself to become a new downtown social center. The hotel, operated by @aparium, offers guests immersive views of the nearby State Capitol, Civic Center Park, and the Rocky Mountains. Windows in select rooms feature built-in seating, providing occupiable spaces where guests can feel closer to nature. Populus has two distinct restaurants, @Pasque_Denver – an all-day dining destination, and @StellarJay_Denver – a lively rooftop restaurant and bar with incredible panoramic views overlooking both the city and mountains. ?? Blurring the Line Between Nature & Architecture: Gardenhouse, LA ?? "Gardenhouse represents a unique opportunity to impact not only the architecture of Los Angeles but to introduce a new paradigm of living where humans are more emotionally connected to nature." - Ma Yansong, MAD Architects In the heart of Los Angeles, Gardenhouse redefines urban living by seamlessly integrating nature into every element of its design. ????? Conceived by MAD Architects and brought to life with the expertise of Gruen Associates as both executive and landscape architect, this mixed-use multifamily project embodies the future of biophilic urban design. ? Key Highlights: ?? The Largest Green Wall of Its Kind: A living, breathing fa?ade that transforms the urban landscape and brings a sense of serenity to the bustling city. ?? A Village on a Hillside: Designed to resemble a naturally vegetated hillside village, Gardenhouse offers 18 unique residences — from cozy studios to expansive villas — all with a deep connection to nature. ?? Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living: Towering window walls, open-concept layouts, and private outdoor spaces invite nature into every home. ?? A Community Rooted in Green: A landscaped second-floor courtyard serves as the heart of the development, fostering connection and offering a shared green retreat for residents. ?? Celebrating Craftsmanship: The light-frame wood construction and interiors pay homage to California’s rich woodworking heritage, adding warmth and character. Gardenhouse isn’t just a place to live — it’s a vision of what’s possible when architecture and nature work in harmony. ???? It stands as a testament to biophilic design’s power to create spaces that nourish both people and the planet. ?? From Polluted Canal to Floating Eco-Park: The Story of the Wild Mile ?? What if a dead industrial waterway could be transformed into a thriving floating wildlife park? ???? In Chicago, a group of innovators asked exactly that — and created the Wild Mile, the world’s first floating eco-park. ??? Once a polluted shipping channel filled with waste, Chicago’s old industrial canals had no wildlife, no plants, and no purpose. But thanks to Urban Rivers, what was once a forgotten waterway is now a living, breathing ecosystem. ???? And now? They've just raised $1.4M to scale this success to more rivers across the U.S.! ?? ? Here’s how they did it: ?? Modular Floating Platforms: Attaching directly to old steel walls, these platforms create space for nature to thrive. ?? Soil-Free Planting: Native plants grow with their roots hanging directly into the water, filtering pollutants and restoring water quality. ?? Habitat Creation: The floating gardens offer homes for fish, birds, and even beavers and turtles. ??♀? Walkways for Exploration: Interconnected pathways let visitors explore without disturbing wildlife, blending human interaction with ecosystem preservation. ?? The Impact? ?? 105+ bird species now call the Wild Mile home ?? Beavers, turtles, and thousands of mussels are helping clean the water ?? Significant reduction in local water pollution ?? 32,000 visitors a year and hundreds of engaged volunteers From a volunteer-led experiment to a blueprint for urban ecological restoration, the Wild Mile proves that the best ideas often start with one simple question: "What if?" ???? Would you love to see projects like this in more cities? Let us know in the comments! ??? #UrbanDesign #BiophilicDesign #Sustainability #WildMile #EcoPark #GreenInfrastructure #CommunityEngagement #EnvironmentalRestoration #Chicago

Five years ago, this was just another car park - check out the 'before' pic ?? Stumbling past this spot and discovering it had turned into beautiful new urban park was a really joyous find. Doubly so given it was a hot day and I was dashing between rare patches of shade to get home via one of the city's busiest, buzziest (and most infamously grey) commercial roads. Triply so when the design turned out to be really superb - it's a very beautiful and welcoming park, where shade, water and biodiversity have all been carefully considered and integrated. Huge congratulations to the incredible teams at Merri-bek City Council for the completion of the new Michelle Guglielmo park at 260 Sydney Road, Brunswick, Melbourne. The 'Park Close to Home' project is doing amazing work at building greenery into some of the city's most built-up, low-canopy neighbourhoods, which is as difficult as it is crucial. It's incredible that this is just one of many parks delivered recently by this program. Big congrats to GLAS Landscape Architects for a pretty visionary design, too. #urbandesign #parks #wsud #greening RMIT Centre for Urban Research

Who says we have to choose between modern life and nature? ?? We can embrace both. Take the Santalaia building in Bogotá—it’s living proof. With over 115,000 plants, this remarkable vertical garden, designed by Paisajismo Urbano, doesn’t just enhance the city’s aesthetics. It cleans the air, reduces urban heat, and provides oxygen for thousands of people daily. But this project goes beyond greenery. It’s a testament to innovation and teamwork. When architects faced challenges bringing their vision to life, they partnered with Paisajismo Urbano and other experts to develop breakthrough solutions, including advanced irrigation systems and sustainable water recycling, using the building’s own water supply. The result? A building that doesn’t just shelter people—it nurtures life. Santalaia demonstrates that we don’t need to settle for sterile, concrete cities. We can design spaces where nature and modern living thrive together, creating healthier, more sustainable urban environments. Hat tip: Moein Nodehi
