Dan Kittredge has been an organic farmer for more than 30 years and is the founder and executive director of the Bionutrient Food Association (BFA), a non-profit whose mission is to “increase quality in the food supply.” Known as one of the leading proponents of “nutrient density,” Dan works to demonstrate the connections between soil health, plant health, and human health. Out of these efforts was born the Bionutrient Institute, which has engineered a prototype of a hand-held consumer spectrometer designed to test nutrient density at point of purchase. Via the Bionutrient Meter, the goal is to empower consumers to choose for nutrient quality and thereby leverage economic incentives to drive full system regeneration. This event is in-person only. When the mission of the BFA is accomplished (increasing the quality of our food supply through principles of biological systems), we will begin to see the overall health of people increase, a reduction in chronic diseases, reduced medical costs, increases in ecological functions, increased soil carbon, and a reduced reliance on agrichemicals.

We hope that by making the principles of high-quality crop production readily available to growers, awakening consumers to the dramatic disparities in the food supply, and then providing them the capacity to make purchasing decisions accordingly, we can realistically affect food quality. Survival of the?fittest, most cooperative. For more than 15 years, we have been working to organize a global movement around increasing quality in the food supply. After first creating a word, Nutrient Density, to refer to the variation in food quality and coming to understand how to work with nature to increase it, we started working with growers to implement practices. Join Dan Kittredge at GROUNDED, an annual conference, a field day and a food festival showcasing all the great thinking on how to farm better.
