We're thrilled to share that our first-of-its-kind engineered bacteria product candidate - BE-101 - a probiotic vectored antibody (pvAb?) biological, has advanced into full pivotal development! It is specifically engineered to combat the damaging effects of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens. It's one of the most economically devastating diseases in the #poultry industry - causing annual losses estimated at $6B, with individual outbreaks resulting in mortality rates as high as 50%. BiomEdit is excited to announce the publication of our latest manuscript in Scientific Reports! In this series of studies, we showed safety and efficacy of two of our probiotic strains in ameliorating the increase in inflammatory markers and intestinal permeability seen in an animal model of alcohol exposure. These results build on our previous work by demonstrating that the beneficial effects of these probiotics in poultry can carry over to other species. While producers and veterinarians in the US have been focused on containing the spread of HPAI, our colleagues in Europe are dealing with an outbreak of bluetongue virus. The BTV-3 serotype, detected in the Netherlands in September 2023, has resulted in mortality rates of up to 75% in affected animals.
