Every graduation day is bittersweet. For the Fall 2025 graduation we congratulate four current and former lab members! - Aidan Curry - researched information exchange mechanisms in plants. - Matthew Scheinblum-Brewer - worked on establishing STARS (our robot test platform). Continuing on to pursue a Masters in Systems Engineering. - Mikayla Dutkiewicz - researched impact of biologically inspired design on solution quality. Continuing on to peruse a Masters Degree in Human Factors at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. - Noa Teed - explored faulted agent intrusion strategies with human experiments. Continuing on to peruse a Masters in Systems Engineering in Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach College of Engineering. You have each had a critical impact on our lab and we’re all so excited to see what comes next for each of you!

Biologically Inspired Design-for-Resilience Lab
关于我们
The Biologically Inspired Design-for-Resilience (BID4R) Lab uses a combination of design methodology, systems engineering, and complex system modeling to examine biologically inspired approaches to increase systems, systems of systems, and multi-agent system resilience. The impact is highly valued in the BID4R Lab. It may include sharing outcomes at conferences, in workshops, during internships, in professional development courses, in undergraduate courses, and through outreach. BID4R lab is part of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is led by Dr. Bryan Watson.

Inspired by nature, Dr. Bryan Watson and fellow researchers at our Biologically Inspired Design-for-Resilience Lab (BID4R) are developing systems to detect cyberattacks on swarms of drones and other networks by imitating the way ants locate intruders in their colonies. ?? "The algorithm defined by this project can potentially identify the intruder and prevent it from getting close," shared Dr. Massood Towhidnejad, chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. ?? Proud Moment for Our Lab! ?? We’re thrilled to announce that our very own Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Rogelio G. recently competed in the 2024 ASME Hackathon at the International Design Engineering Technical Conference (IDETC)! ?? The theme, "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Mechanical Engineering," posed exciting challenges presented by the Air Force Research Laboratory and NIST. Competing against 32 students from 18 institutions across 3 countries—including prestigious universities like Penn State, University of Texas (Austin), Virginia Tech, and Northwestern—our team from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University held their own! ???? ?? #Hackathon #AI #MechanicalEngineering #EmbryRiddle #ASME
