??Reflections on ENGAGE 2025: Supporting Military Spouse Employment?? Is your company military friendly—or is it military READY? It’s official! I was in Arlington, VA when it happened—BioLife is now an active partner of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), officially inducted by the U.S. Department of Defense. This recognition reinforces our commitment to fostering a workplace that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure our workplace is free of discrimination of any kind. ?? Did you know? Military spouses face a 21% unemployment rate and a 25% wage gap compared to their civilian counterparts, making them one of the most underutilized talent pools. Being part of BioLife’s formal entry into MSEP was more than just a joyful event (because it was joyful)—it was a meaningful step toward creating career opportunities for military spouses. Attending the MSEP Annual Partner Meeting, ENGAGE 2025, was an inspiring experience that strengthened my commitment to supporting military families. Personal win moment: This is the third employer partner I’ve helped bring into MSEP! At the event, I met several champions who have brought in four partners, and honestly, I was honored to be 'beaten' in such a rewarding mission. This multi-day event, hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Spouse Education & Career Opportunities (SECO) program, brought together MSEP employers, military leaders, and government representatives—all focused on a shared goal: recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining military spouses. ?? A heartfelt thanks to Lou Mueller, BioLife’s point of contact for MSEP, for his dedication in securing this partnership. And a special shout-out to Lisa Benoit, MBA, who leads our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Recruitment Programs Taskforce—her leadership and first-hand understanding of military families ensures BioLife attracts and supports the best talent. We've unveiled a new plastic waste processing system at our BioLife Testing Laboratory in Hoover, Alabama, that will enable us to divert thousands of pounds of biomedical single-use plastic from landfills every year. The post-processed plastic will be upcycled, reintegrated into supply chains and thereby contribute to the manufacturing of circular plastic goods, such as septic tanks, fencing, shelving units, and more. We’ve invested more than $4 million in our Hoover lab, adding to a recent $10 million investment in biomedical waste processing at our Covington, Georgia, manufacturing site and BioLife Testing Lab. These examples demonstrate how we are supporting environmental sustainability through circular resource use and contributing to Takeda’s commitment of sending zero waste to landfill by fiscal year 2030.
