???Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, we want to take a moment to celebrate the progress we’ve made this past year in our journey toward sustainability. With the incredible support of Lyda Hill Philanthropies, we proudly achieved the My Green Lab gold certification and launched several impactful recycling programs. Below are highlights of our improvements across three key sustainability categories: Waste Reduction & Recycling: - Recycled ~8,500 gallons of Styrofoam - Created paper and battery recycling streams - Recycled ~800 lbs of pipette tip boxes - Recycled 256 lbs of nitrile gloves - Clarified waste streams and updated onboarding guidelines, reducing biohazardous and chemical waste Energy Savings: - Encouraged residents to power down equipment when not in use - Adjusted light settings in shared spaces to turn off when no motion is detected - Adopted energy-saving PHCbi Global cold storage solutions - Organized routine freezer defrost schedules - Reprogrammed all on-site BSCs to automatically shut off UV lights after 15 minutes ???Looking Ahead: This year, we are excited to continue these efforts in collaboration with the sustainability department at UTSW.
