On April 22nd, five teams presented their long-awaited projects at the Biokind Final Evaluation. The teams showed the work they had completed for their respective non-profits – each team having their own unique compilation of data visualizations and data analysis. In attendance giving feedback to these presentations was Dr. McGuffey from the Department of Statistics. #biokind #data #nonprofit

After a great pilot semester last Spring, Celia Dolan and I have successfully founded a new chapter of Biokind Analytics at UVA! Our chapter is one of many under the broader 501(c)(3) organization founded by Alex Han that uses data analysis for good in our communities. With about 20 members this semester, we have partnered with three amazing local healthcare nonprofits: Make-a-Wish Foundation, Autism Society of Central Virginia, and Rx Partnership. Our teams are focusing on exploring volunteer demographics, visually demonstrating the growing needs of those with autism in VA, and analyzing medical coverage to identify any undersupplied areas. My role this semester has been finding nonprofit partners, overseeing these projects, and preparing the club for a successful future at UVA. I’m so excited to see what our teams come up with in the next few weeks! If you want to learn more about the projects at our school and around the country, please see the Fall 2023 Partnerships overview below!
