In recognition of #PancreaticCancerMonth, we’re spotlighting research advancing pancreatic cancer diagnostics. ?? The average lifetime risk of pancreatic cancer is about 1 in 56 for men and 1 in 60 for women, making early detection crucial. Recent studies have identified unique RNA "signatures" in the blood of cancer patients, especially RNAs from repetitive DNA sections. Using advanced technology, researchers analyzed cell-free RNA from blood plasma samples, including samples from patients with pancreatic cancer provided by BioIVT. During their study, they discovered that specific RNA patterns—like the Alu subfamilies—are particularly common in pancreatic cancer patients, providing a promising pathway for early diagnosis. By identifying these unique #biomarkers, researchers propel us closer to more precise, disease-specific diagnostic tools for #PancreaticCancer. Understanding potential obstacles in the selection, utilization, and processing of #FFPEtissue is imperative for successful next-generation #sequencing (NGS). Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) #biospecimens provide a cost-effective, versatile resource for NGS applications. NGS can analyze genomes, epigenomes, and transcriptomes and has been considered a valuable method for analyzing molecules derived from FFPE tissue blocks. However, awareness and effective management of the limitations associated with FFPE samples, coupled with optimized library preparation, are fundamental for the successful clinical implementation of FFPE-derived NGS. Dissociated #tumor cells (DTCs) contain lymphoid cell subsets, such as #Tcells, B cells and NK cells, which can be easily isolated using standard immunomagnetic selection. As such, they are an invaluable source of tumor-infiltrating #lymphocytes (TILs), which are of critical interest for cellular therapies targeting solid tumors. View the results of an analysis on BioIVT’s DTCs to assess the TIL populations therein including a breakdown of CD45+ populations across a variety of tumor types: https://lnkd.in/eFzWHgR4 BioIVT provides a wide range of tissue and isolated cellular preparations from a diverse donor population. Kevin King, BioIVT’s Senior Director of #Donor Center Strategy and Growth will be providing his industry insight and expertise by moderating a roundtable session at the 2nd Annual Donor Selection & Source Summit today entitled “Mitigating Risks in #CellandGeneTherapy: Re-evaluating Donor Selection and Characterizing Cellular Starting Material". The discussion will include topics like: ? Establishing industry standard criteria for donor eligibility and implementation of advanced screening technologies. ? Characterization of cellular properties and standardized assays to assess donor derived cell quality and function. As experts in providing RUO & GMP cellular starting and ancillary materials for the manufacture of #AdvancedTherapies, our aim is to foster collaboration between stakeholders to share needs as well as provide input on implementing risk mitigation strategies and foresight for sourcing donor-derived cellular starting material. Make sure to connect with Kevin and Lisa Kretzschmar, MBA if you will be at the event. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an urgent global health threat, causing over 1.27 million deaths worldwide and nearly 35,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. During Antibiotic Awareness Week, we recognize the need for innovative solutions to combat drug-resistant infections. A recent study explored how a natural substance, thanatin, can kill certain harmful bacteria by disrupting a key part of their defense system. Building on this, researchers developed new antimicrobial peptides that target Gram-negative bacteria like E. coli and K. pneumoniae with a reduced risk of resistance. BioIVT contributed essential plasma samples for this study, supporting critical advancements in AMR research.
