Rethinking multifamily water systems?? Water systems in the U.S. account for about 2% of energy use, contributing over 45 million tons of greenhouse gases annually. Traditional water systems use a huge amount of energy to pump, clean, and deliver potable water, as well as treat wastewater. #rainwater and #graywater systems can significantly reduce this energy requirement—and bring us closer to a net-zero future. For an Aegis Living community in Seattle's Lake Union neighborhood, we partnered with Biohabitats to design an innovative rainwater and graywater harvesting system. This system has saved over 140,000 gallons of water per year by utilizing rainwater and graywater for toilet flushing and irrigation. #NetZeroNow

This project is especially close to my heart, as it’s not too far from an area in Northeastern Ohio where my family has deep roots. I’m excited to see what Mark Rios, Nate Cormier, and the rest of the team create to deliver a truly memorable hospitality experience in such a beautiful part of the country. We’re inspired by projects like the National Aquarium’s Harbor Wetland, recently highlighted by Bloomberg. This initiative showcases how creative design can rejuvenate ecosystems and foster meaningful connections between people and nature. Designed by Baltimore’s Ayers Saint Gross, the floating wetland is a groundbreaking effort to revitalize urban waterways using the natural filtering abilities of native plants. A previous prototype led to the success of this expanded version, drawing aquatic life back to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
