Digital experiences play a pivotal role in sustainability discourses. As much as we learn about environmental harm through the Internet, we also learn about the innovative new approaches that are emerging everyday to repair our ecosystems and live in harmony with the planet. The Terra Prize for Outstanding Digital Submission will go to the team in the Biodesign Challenge competition with the most compelling digital representation of their biodesign project. Global education program + competition fostering biodesign innovation. Art?? x Design?? x Biotech??
关于我们
The next generation of design requires cross-disciplinary collaborations that bridge art, design, biology and technology. To foster these collaborations, Biodesign Challenge (BDC) partners university and high school students with artists, designers, and scientists. Together they create projects that envision future applications and deeper implications of biotechnology. Each June, students come together to showcase their projects at Parsons School of Design and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

This Giving Tuesday, Biodesign Challenge celebrates 10 years of student excellence in biotechnology, art, and design. Biodesign Challenge is a small educational nonprofit blazing a trail at the forefront of an emerging discipline. It would not be where it is today without community support. Thank you to everyone who has helped us empower students and imagine a better world made possible through biodesign. Support our programming by donating here:? https://lnkd.in/eKp563tq. Donations of $150 or more will receive a gift copy of our book Grow the Future, a retrospective look at the first 5 years of BDC. #nonprofit #givingtuesday #biodesign #biodesignchallenge #BDC2025

We are offering a free webinar on the future of sustainable architecture through biocement. Tomorrow - Giving Tuesday, December 3 - Laura Maria Gonzalez will present Bacterial Biocement: Uncovering Process, Challenges, and New Research Horizons at 12pm ET! About the Webinar:?Together, we will explore the world of bacterial biocement - diving into its unique processes, challenges, and current research on in-situ applications. We'll also highlight areas that could benefit from further research, sparking ideas for students ready to expand the possibilities of biocement's role in sustainable design. About the Speaker:?Laura Maria Gonzalez is a researcher specializing in computational design, 3D printing, and synthetic biology. Holding a Master of Science from MIT and a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University, Gonzalez's work blends science, technology, and design. Gonzalez is currently a visiting lecturer in the Department of Design Tech at Cornell University and an instructor at Genspace. Her research has been published in Nature Biotechnology, Designboom, STIRpad, and Casa Vogue. With experience as a teaching fellow at MIT, a researcher at the MIT Media Lab, and an architectural designer at SOM, Laura is committed to pioneering interdisciplinary design and technology. She continues to explore new frontiers in architecture and material science, finding new ways to make in the future. Special Note:?All activities described in Bacterial Biocement: Uncovering Process, Challenges, and New Research Horizons require access to a Biosafety Level 1 laboratory space. Biodesign Challenge encourages everyone with an interest in the subject to attend, regardless of current laboratory access, given the importance of the subject. PLEASE VOTE by OCTOBER 18 for Chief Creative Officer Nada Elkharashi, MFA to win Stars of Science ?, an innovation competition where Electric Skin has advanced to the Top 3 finalists. VOTE HERE: https://lnkd.in/esm5SYnn Electric Skin is a biotech startup (and Biodesign Challenge Sprint alumni) that has thrived on the diversity of their founders—unique disciplines, cultures, languages, and career paths. But they share the same values and vision: a less extractive, more regenerative energy future for anybody, anywhere. Their protein-based technology can generate electricity in remote, off-grid locations under complete darkness. All that's needed is humidity in the air. Public voting will help finalists win the competition (and award money!). Please share the voting link with your network to increase chances of scaling their regenerative energy technology... ? Three Years of Work - Now we need your Vote: We've made it to the top Three of @Stars of Science ! The future of electronics is growable and compostable if you help us: Nada Elkharashi, MFA and Catherine Euale worked tirelessly to prototype Biovolt, a temperature sensor that powers itself from the humidity in the air. Further funding like the Stars of Science cash prize will allow us to go much further than just a sensor. Watch the episode for a recap of what we have achieved in the show, but first VOTE FOR NADA! https://lnkd.in/d6kFnjaP Sequoia Fischer Paige Perillat-Piratoine What Design Can Do REBBLS The Biomimicry Institute Pandorahub WORTH Partnership Project Biodesign Challenge Biofabricate
