On March 17th, 2025, we were thrilled to celebrate the inauguration of the highly anticipated Plastic Recycling Facility by Biocomp Nepal Pvt. Ltd. as part of the RIVER+ Project, marking a significant milestone in Nepal's journey toward sustainable plastic waste management. This state-of-the-art facility is set to revolutionize the recycling process by turning low-grade plastic into a highly valuable composite board with endless potential. This innovative board can serve as a sustainable alternative to plywood, contributing to both environmental conservation and waste reduction. Guests had the opportunity to witness the entire process of creating these boards and even took home some samples, getting a firsthand experience of this groundbreaking solution. We were honored to have a distinguished group of individuals from UNOPS, SACEP, SEZA (Special Economic Zone Authority), People in Need Nepal (PIN), and Cleanup Nepal in attendance. Their support and presence reflect the collective effort to create lasting environmental impact through collaboration and innovation, as they are the ones who have made this project possible with their endless support. Additionally, we were also delighted to have our dedicated factory team join us for the event, as they will be the ones working tirelessly to produce these boards, making this project a reality. Their passion and commitment are truly the heart of this endeavor. RIVER+ project is funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by The World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS. The RIVER+ project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL. RIVER+ will reduce the plastic pollution in rivers and streets of Nepal by establishing a complete value chain for the collection and recycling of Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs) & low-grade plastics.???

We were honored to welcome a delegation from the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, highlighting our collective commitment to sustainability. This milestone marks a major step forward for Nepal’s circular economy, driven by collaboration, innovation, and impact.

?? ?????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????????????????????? ???? ??????????! ?? Biocomp Nepal ’s new plastic recycling facility in Simara is officially open! The facility was inaugurated by Ms. Anjalie Devaraja, Project Director of the PLEASE Project, and Mr. Maarten Nijhof, Managing Director of Biocomp Nepal, marking a major step forward in sustainable innovation. A delegation from the PLEASE Project also joined to celebrate this milestone. At this facility, waste plastic collected from rivers, industries, and landfills undergoes a 5-step transformation—from raw material collection to shredding, drying, molding, pressing, and trimming—into high-quality composite boards. These sustainable boards can be used in furniture, construction, and more, proving that waste can be turned into valuable resources! A huge congratulations to Biocomp Nepal and all involved in this impactful initiative! #pleaseproject #SACEP #UNOPS #WorldBank #Nepal #BiocompNepal #Plasticrecyclingfacility #recycle #sustainability #plasticfree #plasticfreesouthasia

???????????????????? ?????????????? ??????????: ?????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????????? Plastic waste is often seen as a problem, but what if we told you it could be a valuable resource? Our latest Social Behaviour Change Communication (#SBCC) animation illustrates the life cycle of plastic, showing how segregated waste contributes to a value chain—ultimately transforming into composite boards. This is the power of the #circulareconomy - where waste is not discarded but repurposed into something meaningful. By adopting sustainable waste management practices, we can reduce pollution, create economic opportunities, and build a cleaner future. ???? This animation is developed under the RIVER+ project, funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by The World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS. The RIVER+ project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL. Together, we are committed to combating plastic pollution and protecting our rivers! ?? Watch the animation and be part of the change! #CircularEconomy #PlasticInnovation #PlasticFreeRivers

On March 11, 2025, as part of the WASH Facility installation, we successfully handed over two period-friendly portable toilets to Srijanshil Traders and Sah Scrapers. Both toilets feature separate compartments for men and women, along with a hand-washing station. The Sah Scraper center’s toilet is also designed to be fully accessible for people with disabilities. The women’s compartment is equipped with a sanitary pad vending machine and a disposal bin for used pads. After the handover, we conducted an orientation for the Informal Waste Workers on proper usage, cleanliness, and maintenance. To ensure hygiene, we also provided sanitary pads, cleaning supplies, soap dispensers, hand towels, and sanitizers to the two Her Safety women’s committees. These facilities are provided through the RIVER+ project, funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by The World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS. The project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL. Together, we are committed to combating plastic pollution and protecting our rivers! #PlasticFreeRivers?

  • We successfully completed our Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) training with factory employees at Simara. The session covered important topics such as gender roles, power, patriarchy, and socialization. Participants learned about the differences between gender and sexuality, and gained valuable knowledge on SGBV, its impact, and how to access protection services. Through roleplay, employees took on different societal roles, leading a survivor through the process of seeking justice. We also discussed evolving gender roles and expectations, explored risk assessments, and used the Genderbread Person model to understand the spectrum of gender and identity. By fostering awareness and encouraging service-seeking behavior, we are working together to create a safer, more equitable environment for all. This training was conducted under the RIVER+ project which is funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by The World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS. The project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL. • Promoting safety and preparedness! The Jagriti Mahila Samiti and Sankalan Mahila Surakshya Samiti, formed through the Her Safety trainings, received essential support materials based on identified workplace risks through a risk mapping activity—first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and solar-powered lights. These resources empower them to address workplace hazards, ensure safety during late hours, and be prepared for emergencies. Sabin Adhikari, Emergency and Anticipatory Action Lead at PIN, provided guidance on the proper use of first aid kits and demonstrated how to effectively use fire extinguishers. The conditional support material distribution was through the RIVER+ project which is funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by The World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS. The project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL.
