?? NEW RESEARCH: "A paradigm shift: analytical ultracentrifugation as a multi‐attribute platform method in targeted protein degradation". Lake N. Paul, PhD. , Alexander Yarawsky, PhD, Michael DeLion, Suki Hyman TPD is revolutionizing drug discovery by degrading disease-causing proteins instead of merely inhibiting them. A major challenge? Understanding ternary complex formation (TCF)—the key step where degraders bring a target protein and an E3 ubiquitin ligase together for destruction. This study highlights analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) as a powerful, often overlooked method to analyze TCF. By leveraging SV-AUC & SE-AUC, researchers can measure stoichiometry, binding kinetics, and hydrodynamics, filling critical knowledge gaps. The result? Dr. Marie Maynard Daly, the first Black American to receive a Ph.D. from Columbia University and the first black woman in the United States to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry, led pioneering research on DNA structure, helping deepen our understanding of genetics and molecular biology. Dr. Ernest Everett Just revolutionized cell biology with his studies on fertilization and cell division. More recently, Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett-Helaire, PhD was instrumental in developing mRNA vaccine technology, helping combat global health crises. Their contributions continue to inspire innovation and progress.
