Established in 2011 by a group of postdoctoral researchers at Stanford University, Bio-protocol aims to improve research reproductivity by sharing and discussing life science research protocols. Bio-protocol journal is a peer-reviewed protocol e-journal publishing high-quality life science protocols, and it has been listed by PubMed Central and Web of Science. Bio-protocol also runs a sister database, called Bio-101, which is an open platform for sharing protocols as well as asking and answering questions. Bio-protocol has built tight collaborations with several high profile research journals/publishers including Science/AAAS and eLIFE to advance their mutual goal of making the scientific literature more efficient and reproducible.

On the cover ?: The image captures a migrating neuron featuring a growth cone that is both morphologically and molecularly reminiscent of an axonal growth cone. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs), key components of the inhibitory extracellular matrix, trigger growth cone collapse in migrating neurons. In contrast, heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) (visualized as magenta stripes) counteract the inhibitory effects of CSPGs, enabling growth cone extension (membrane labeled with Venus; cytosol with DsRed) even in CSPG-rich environments.
