While many people in the United States will enjoy sweetpotatoes on their Thanksgiving tables, they often don’t realize just how resilient and exceptionally nutritious this crop can be for communities facing the most extreme impacts of climate change. The orange-fleshed sweetpotato, a biofortified crop, enables smallholder farmers to grow nutritious foods amidst rising temperatures. It’s Vitamin A-rich, climate-adaptive, and can tolerate drought and disease, providing nutrition for over 10 million households in Africa and South Asia. Learn more about how this miracle crop is helping to create sustainable and climate-resilient food systems: https://gates.ly/3CNfNyk

Tackling childhood malnutrition doesn’t need to wait until a child is born. Prenatal multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS), are a proven, safe way of preventing malnutrition in pregnant women and their babies. MMS tablets contain 15 vitamins and minerals crucial for a healthy pregnancy and cost as little as $2.60. Already, countries like Rwanda are investing in this innovative solution, ensuring millions of women who need the supplement get access. When mothers and children are healthy, the world benefits. Investing in these kinds of nutrition innovations is a key way to help ensure they stay healthy. This imbalance can negatively impact their careers, hindering their professional growth. Employers have a key role to play in reducing the “time poverty” women face. By taking steps like investing in childcare support for their employees and embracing a nontraditional work schedule, employers won’t just help women: They will stimulate economic growth for households, communities, and economies. During World #AMR Awareness Week, we’re celebrating scientists like Caroline Tigoi who are working to end antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when germs change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat. This can render existing treatments and tools ineffective, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. This week, the World Health Organization and other global health organizations are working to improve awareness and understanding of AMR—so that the world can fight back. Experts like Caroline can help. Learn more about her story and her work. ??
