From creating the first course to launching our first website, we’ve grown step by step to reach new milestones. Today, Bilin Academy is a thriving multilingual learning platform with over 5,500 registered families, 250+ courses, 100,000+ enrollments, and students from over 20 countries. We’re proud to have nurtured young global citizens, creating countless moments of growth and connection across the world. None of this would have been possible without the trust and support of our parents, students, and teachers! We are so grateful for the journey we’ve shared. ?? ???? ?? Last week, we were honored to host Ethan Pierce, Founder of Adaptive Reader, for an inspiring live webinar on literacy development and AI-enabled learning! From struggling to read in third grade to receiving a full scholarship to Harvard, Ethan's own experience made him realize the power of support when it comes to literacy development. This is the story behind the birth of Adaptive Reader, a leveled reading app that offers multi-language, multi-level reading experiences for classic novels, making these works accessible to children of varying reading abilities and native languages.????? According to Adaptive Reader’s research, literacy challenge is very common, with statistics revealing that 50% of American adults cannot read at an 8th-grade level. We are seeing greater linguistic and neurological diversity in our classrooms. But are students receiving the personalized support they need in their learning journeys? Do educators and schools have the tools necessary to meet the needs of every student? Sadly, the answer is often no. In our webinar, Ethan highlighted the concept of Translanguaging, a method familiar to many audiences who attended our previous webinar with Professor Kevin W. H. Tai from The University of Hong Kong. At Bilin Academy, we work with ELL students with diverse native languages. We understand firsthand that language proficiency can vary greatly within the same grade level, which affects their literacy development. Rather than excluding their native language from their learning journey, prioritize the use of native language references and scaffolding techniques. ?? ?? This translanguaging approach ensures a nurturing environment where students can build upon their existing language skills while mastering new ones. We are deeply inspired by tools such as Adaptive Reader and many others that are transforming personalized learning and promoting inclusivity! Thank you to Ethan Pierce for a great webinar! Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting @prof.kevinwhtai Professor Kevin Tai from The University of Hong Kong for an enlightening discussion on translanguaging. So, what exactly is translanguaging? It’s a pedagogical approach where students are encouraged to think and communicate in multiple languages, using their home language as a bridge to mastering another. ??With translanguaging, learners can switch between languages, empowering them to choose the most effective mode of expression in any given moment. If you are raising or teaching multilingual children and hope to create your own translanguaging space, here are some expert tips from Professor Tai: ?? Tap into multilingual resources; ??
