Connecting Research & Practice in Math Education Too often, research-based instructional strategies don’t make it into classrooms—not because teachers don’t value them, but because real-world classroom dynamics make implementation challenging. Courtney Nagle, Vice President of Teaching & Research at Big Ideas Learning, has spent her career addressing this disconnect. In her latest blog, she explores how instructional materials like Math & YOU can bridge the gap, making rigorous and relevant math instruction both accessible and impactful for all students. Dr. Nagle’s insights are a must-read for anyone passionate about research-driven math education! What strategies have helped you connect theory and practice in your teaching? Let’s discuss in the comments! #MathEducation #EdResearch #BigIdeasLearning #InstructionalDesign #K12Learning

Innovation thrives when it’s intentional. At Big Ideas Learning, we don’t chase change for the sake of it—we innovate with purpose, curiosity, and impact. Amber Dillaman, Director of Research & Innovation, recently shared our Innovation Key Principles for 2025—a framework that empowers our team to explore, investigate, and create solutions that truly make a difference. By embedding these principles into our daily work, we continue to develop research-based instructional resources that support teachers and engage students in deeper mathematical learning. How do you apply innovation in your work? Read Amber's full post below for more details.
At Big Ideas Learning, we have established Innovation Key Principles for 2025! Innovation can be an intimidating concept, so we want our teams to feel empowered to grow in areas that apply to the work they do daily! ??Ideate - Be creative, curious, and take risks ??Investigate - Fully understand the problem and connect the dots ??Include - Gain new perspective, collaborate, and empathize ??Impact - Take steps toward authentic change, not just new for newness-sake When these key principles are applied all together to solve a big problem, we can drive transformational innovation! Which of these is most meaningful to you?

Our National Geographic Learning and Big Ideas Learning teams just wrapped up three exciting days at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics - NCTM Spring Conference in Kansas City. The conference, centered around the theme "Championship Playbook: Empowering Our Students to Experience the World Through a Mathematical Lens," aimed to equip educators with innovative approaches to make mathematics relevant, useful and engaging for all students. We are thrilled with the success of the event, as our brand-new booth allowed us to connect with over 2,000 math educators from across the country. In addition, the sessions conducted by authors Laurie Boswell and Richard Sgroi drew a crowd of nearly 100 educators. Check out photos from the event below. #secondaryeducation #k12education #NCTMKC25
