A Chance Meeting, A Life Changing Event ? During the pandemic I was asked to develop a National Health Equity Alliance for The Health Management Academy. I humbly embraced the opportunity but quietly was anxious for disparities was not part of my lived experience. Little did I know the impact this responsibility would have on me personally, the journey it would take me on, and the incredible people I would have the privilege to meet. ? It all started in Nov of 2022, I was in Detroit and had a chance meeting, with Andre Hughes. Andre was in town from Chicago, discussing the incredible, work he had dedicated his life to after retiring from Accenture. A mission he started 15 years ago, has invested upwards of $100m of his personal wealth, and with a determination to succeed, he built BigHeart, to end the equity crisis which has plagued our country for generations. ? Andre grew up in the south side of Chicago and credits his parents for keeping him off the streets and getting a great education. After graduating with an Engineering degree from Purdue and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago he took a job in consulting. He would become one of the Founding Partners of Accenture, blessed with stratospheric success he retired at 50, and pursued a vision inspired by God, “all the resources necessary to pick up a fallen people exist, they just don’t have access to them” and built the BigHeart technology platform for and in partnership with trusted advisors living in marginalized communities. ? The Answer Has Been Found, The Movement Begun, The Time is Now ? It has been an overwhelming privilege to have met Andre, a man who has not only dedicated his life to giving back, but who spends 4 days a week as the personal caregiver to his 92-year-old father who receives in home dialysis. ? I have been blessed to play a small role in building a coalition of health system and industry executives to provide insights into the devasting impact disparities have on the organizations they lead and the communities they serve. We hosted the "Taste of Tech Slovakia with Touch4IT" in Austin during #SXSW Slovak PRO invited us to showcase the best of Slovak technology innovation at the Slovak PRO House SXSW event. Our healthcare projects took center stage, showing how dedicated we are to transforming the industry in North America. ???? At the event, we talked extensively about our work in #healthcare industry. One project that really stood out was our telehealth platform for BigHeart Philanthropy. This platform has changed the way over 800,000 Americans access medical care, making it much easier to get help when needed. Our event went really well, sparking important conversations and connections in the tech world. We're excited to have shared our accomplishments and ideas, and we're eager to keep pushing the limits of innovation, especially in healthcare. ??
