Supporting Local Eateries Like Costa’s Kitchen | A Bigger Than Food Mission One of the greatest joys I have at the Bigger Than Food Foundation is celebrating and supporting amazing local restaurants. Over the holidays, I had the privilege of spending time in my hometown and supporting my little brother’s restaurant, Costa’s Kitchen. Today, I received the bittersweet news that Costa’s Kitchen will close its doors at the end of January. It’s a reminder of how volatile the economy can be in rural towns, even for incredible establishments. In Duncan, we have big-box stores like Wal-Mart, Oklahoma's favorite Braum's and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, and plenty of fast-food options—but it’s the local businesses that truly give a town its identity. Costa’s Kitchen is one of those local eateries, known for serving the best Italian subs in the county, along with delicious Italian desserts and antipasto salad. Until the final day, Bigger Than Food will do its part to ensure that everyone knows about this extraordinary restaurant. If you’re anywhere near Duncan—or even if you’re not—make the trip. Let’s show Costa’s Kitchen all the love and support we can in these final weeks. When we support small businesses, we strengthen our communities. Costa’s Kitchen may be closing this chapter, but the impact they’ve had will be remembered far beyond January 31. ?? Costa’s Kitchen 503 S. Highway 81, Duncan, OK 73533 ?? (580) 786-0010 ?? Y ’all, this one’s personal. ???? Cooking has always been more than just throwing down in the kitchen—it’s been a way to keep my family’s story alive. My latest blog post on Beyond the Plate is a tribute to the two women who taught me what it really means to cook with love and purpose: my mom and grandmother. ?? From Granny’s kitchen, feeding a family of 12 with heart and soul, to my own culinary adventures (including that time I made a pancake the size of a pizza ????), food has always been our way of staying connected. It’s more than recipes—it’s family, legacy, and love. Take a minute to read how cooking became a part of our family’s DNA and how it still brings us together today. ???? ??Everything You Need is Found in Community?? Community support makes all the difference. When we come together, we create a strong support network that benefits everyone involved. Working together in our neighborhoods strengthens families and boosts local economies. By supporting small businesses, we not only help our community thrive but also create job opportunities. Shopping local increases the tax base, which funds essential services and infrastructure improvements. Respecting and valuing each person’s unique skills is vital. When we acknowledge each other’s talents, we foster collaboration and innovation. This spirit of teamwork drives prosperity and enhances our quality of life. Let’s embrace the power of community. By working hand in hand, we can build vibrant neighborhoods where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Remember, everything you need is found in the relationships we cultivate within our community. #biggerthanfood
