Last night we held a special ‘Big Mix’ event where we welcomed current Bigs, prospective volunteers, and others to learn more about our organization. It was a great evening with a great turnout. We had such a special time visiting with our dedicated volunteers about their matches and hearing their comments and stories, and meeting new friends. Thanks to Little Woodrow’s on Parmer Lane for hosting us, and thanks to Meg Sweeny, our Volunteer Engagement Manager, for organizing this event. We’re excited to introduce another new match: Little Brother Payton and Big Brother Andrew. This match is a little different than some of our others because they originally met through Payton’s previous Big, so they were already familiar with each other. They were both excited to get their match started and to begin their outings! Payton is into sports, which Andrew was happy to hear. When asked about a match goal, Payton said he would like to learn or improve a skill, so the match agreed to practice a different skill each month. We’re excited for this pair and can’t wait to hear what they choose to do, and learn, together! #BBBSCTX #BiggerTogether

This is SO WICKED GOOD! Excited to announce that Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is teaming up with NBCUniversal to kick-off the #WickedKindnessChallenge. Inspired by the upcoming Wicked movie our Littles were able to experience kindness with a behind the scenes career experience with Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and so many other cast and crew. We could not do what we do without the contributions of our talented staff! Today we want to recognize several of our team members as they celebrate November anniversaries with BBBS. Janelly is a Bilingual Enrollment Specialist who has been with BBBS for 2 years. Janelly helps to enroll prospective Bigs, Littles, and families in our program. Kimberly is a Bilingual Match Support specialist. She is celebrating her 1-year anniversary with BBBS. Kimberly helps to support our Bigs and Littles once they are matched. Meg Sweeny has been with BBBS for 3 years and she is our Volunteer Engagement Manager. Meg is focused on outreach and recruitment. She provides Lunch and Learn presentations for organizations in the community and also facilitates our online Volunteer Information Sessions, among other things. Thank you all for everything you do! Please join us in recognizing our November Big of the month, Travis Buholtz. Travis and his Little Brother SirJonah have been matched since 2022. Here are some of the things Travis shared with us about his match! What’s your favorite thing about your Little Brother? My favorite thing about SirJonah is his kind heart. He’s such a respectful, easy going and playful kid. Getting to spend time together is such a joy! He’s growing up so fast - every time I see him, I feel like he’s more mature. It gives me a lot of pride to play a role in his development when I see how great a kid he is growing up to be. Can you share a memorable experience or activity you've done together? It was hard to pick one! But we had a great time sailing at the BBBS event this past summer. The wind wasn’t too strong but that allowed us to jump off the boat and swim in the warm lake. Neither of us wanted the event to end. We can’t wait to go back next year! What inspired you to become a Big Brother? I wanted to have the big brother experience! I’m the youngest of two boys and so I missed out on experiencing what it was like to guide a younger brother through life’s opportunities and challenges. I’m getting to do this with SirJonah. On Saturday, we hosted our final Match Anniversary celebration of the year. 7 matches attended to play Bingo, enjoy refreshments, and mingle with other matches. It was fun hearing everyone’s stories and match experiences! Everyone went home with a special prize and new memories to share with friends and family. We really enjoyed this time together. It is so special for our matches to have time with one another and to see how our staff cares for and supports them! #BBBSCTX #BetterTogether #BeBig
