We’re here to change the way people think about waste.
关于我们
Founded in London in 1912, Biffa is a leading UK nationwide integrated waste management business providing collection, treatment, recycling and technologically-driven energy generation services. Through the expertise of our people and investment in technology we promote and deliver sustainable waste management solutions. We provide an essential service to satisfy the business needs of our commercial, industrial and public sector customers throughout the UK, and help them to meet their legal obligations and corporate responsibility commitments. We employ 10,000 people and collect waste from thousands of businesses and millions of households across the UK each day.? Our surplus food redistribution partnership with Company Shop Group, and our environmental work with BiffaAward and Waste Aid, also have wider benefits for the UK and beyond. Since 2002 we’ve reduced our carbon emissions by 70 per cent and aim to be net zero by 2050.

As COP29 gets underway this week, Biffa remains committed to tackling climate change and creating a zero-waste economy. A wide range of topics will be discussed and debated over the fortnight, but once again we’re disappointed that sustainable waste management isn’t higher on the agenda. We know that to reduce our reliance on virgin materials and enable a circular economy here in the UK, redistribution, recycling and recovery are essential. Going one step further, we’re committed to decarbonising our own operations so that by 2050 we can fulfil our aim of becoming net zero. Exciting news! Biffa has officially acquired Keenan Recycling, enhancing our food waste collections capability across England, Scotland, and Wales, ahead of the Simpler Recycling requirement for most businesses to separate food waste from March 2025. With this acquisition, our commercial customers will benefit from increased options and flexibility around food waste collections, supporting our commitment to the circular economy and helping the UK reach its Net Zero targets. Keenan Recycling’s impressive operations, including a fleet of 80 state-of-the-art vehicles and an expert team of 140, will significantly enhance our end-to-end food waste solution. Together, we continue to lead the way in sustainable waste management. #Recycling #FoodWaste #SustainableWasteManagement

Today’s Budget presented a pivotal opportunity for the UK Government to drive investment in a fair transition to a greener circular economy. We applaud the positive moves from Ministers to support capital spending and create a stable policy environment for investors, but believe further action is necessary. We welcome the decisions regarding Landfill Tax rates and support the increase in the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) rate for next year in line with inflation. However, a progressive PPT is crucial for driving demand for recycled plastic, something Biffa has championed for years. While we appreciate the Budget’s intention to boost electric vehicle uptake, we are disappointed by the lack of substantial backing for decarbonising commercial vehicles. To transition our collection fleet of HGVs to alternative fuels, we need a comprehensive policy framework that incentivises low-carbon options, such as HVO, while we wait for infrastructure developments. Overall, we are encouraged by the Chancellor’s commitment to maximising economic growth, enhancing skills, and making the UK a clean energy superpower. We look forward to collaborating with Ministers and our sector to harness the opportunities presented by decarbonisation and a zero-waste economy. #CircularEconomy #PlasticPackagingTax #ZeroWaste

This Menopause Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the 230 colleagues who participated in last year’s #Pause sessions. These sessions created a supportive space for sharing personal experiences, learning how to manage menopause symptoms, and helping shape our workplace adjustments. These changes include practical measures like controlling office temperatures where possible, providing desk fans, and ensuring easy access to washroom facilities and sanitary products. At Biffa, we're committed to providing meaningful support through our #Pause group, expert guidance, and practical resources. We understand that workplace environments can unintentionally worsen menopause symptoms, adding stress. Common challenges include high temperatures, poor ventilation, limited access to restrooms, and a lack of cold drinking water. This October, we hosted a special webinar to introduce the #Pause group to our digital personal development platform (the everywomanNetwork) and recognise the champions who have stepped up to lead the initiative. 155 members of the Biffa Menopause Group even held a ‘watch party’ for the webinar, joining together to listen to the conversation and continue the discussion afterward using tools provided by the everywomanNetwork. Participants also heard from Natalie Brown, Group Learning and Development Manager, about the importance of open conversations. Additionally, volunteers shared impactful stories, and Laura Richardson, HR Business Partner, discussed exciting future plans, including external speakers and manager training.
