Congratulations to Biden School graduate students Chelsea Cohen and Carl Nelson-Poteet on their appointments to the President's Student Advisory Council for the 2024-2025 academic year! Now in its third year, the council meets with President Dennis Assanis and other administrators to offer its views and recommendations on various topics important to the student experience at the University of Delaware. This year's 18 council members were selected last spring from about 100 students who had been nominated by various UD leaders. Read more below:

Congratulations to Dr. Kim de Jongh on receiving the 2024 Governor's Award for Excellence in Civics Education for her work at the John Dickinson School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. The annual award, created by the Delaware Civics Education Coalition in partnership with the Delaware Center for Civics Education (DCCE) within the Institute for Public Administration (IPA) at the UD Biden School, recognizes Delaware teachers in kindergarten through 12th grade for excellence in civics instruction inside and outside the classroom and for continuing their own learning, leadership and advocacy for civics education. Recipients are chosen based on nominations from district social studies supervisors and submitted application packets, which are evaluated by review panelists from the University of Delaware, the Delaware Department of Education, the Delaware Historical Society and previous awardees. Dr. de Jongh (left) was presented with her award by IPA policy scientist and DCCE assistant director Scott Abbott (right) at an awards ceremony last month.

Meet Tyron Herring, a second-year MPA student in UD’s Biden School and a member of the football team. Tyron chose the Biden School for its strong focus on public service and hands-on experiences through the Institute for Public Administration. His advice for transfer students or student-athletes? “Clearly lay out your academic and athletic goals—it’ll make your decision much clearer.” Post-graduation, Tyron plans to use his MPA to make an impact in public policy. ????
