https://lnkd.in/gWEEHjFa We are fortunate to have this partnership in the lives of some of our Clubs members.
STEM Center Director | developing change-makers | bridging formal and informal STEM education | growing reciprocal partnerships
Partnership between the JMU STEM Center and Boys & Girls Club of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (BGCHR) has given over 200 JMU students the opportunity to impact and be impacted by an incredible group of young children in our community. ?? Spoiler- our first promo video!?? ?? This month, BGCHR CEO, Sandra Quigg and I celebrate our 5th year of partnership, something we never imagined when starting this journey at the height of the pandemic. ?? At that time, schools were closed but BGCHR kept their doors open and once it was safe, they opened them to us. Every other week, 4 of my founding STEM Corps members engaged 25 of their members in activities to rekindle their science interest and offer a temporary distraction from the uncertainties of the world. ?? With JMU donor support, this not only continued but grew into a year-long program in which 65 students facilitate STEM learning with 80 (of the 300) K-5 BGCHR members while building role-model relationships. Some of these #jmustemcorps members have worked with the same kids for 3 years ??. ?? To celebrate this milestone and imagine the next, Sandra and I worked with the outstanding team at Appeal Production to share some of the magic that happens when these two groups come together.? ? ?? We hope you enjoy this short video and invite you to share it with your circle of educators, parents, and others who are personally or professionally invested in STEM education and youth development.? https://lnkd.in/eEgUUK4W ?? Because of the mention limit, I can only tag students who played a role this past year, but there are many more to recognize! This summer, our Clubs are focused on Go Healthy! where we learn and experience health and wellness in our physical activities, our emotional being, and our eating activities. For eating, we partnered with Vine&Fig who, in turn, has partnered with local farms Radical Roots, St. Isidore Homestead and Jubilee Climate, to get nutritious vegetables to our families AND recipes for encouragement. Partnerships like this are key to providing the best experiences for our Club kids!! This video highlights this week's veggies recipe.
