The TOPS College Success Team hosted an informative event on Wednesday, February 26, to help 9th–11th grade students navigate the college access journey. The team covered essential topics on how to explore, prepare for, and pay for college. We were incredibly fortunate to receive a generous donation from Cousins Subs, allowing us to provide dinner for all attendees! Several universities, including UW-Madison, Edgewood College, Madison College, UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Oshkosh, joined us to speak one-on-one with students, offering valuable information and resources.

This last month at the McKenzie Family Club, our members took part in an exciting Black History Month Scavenger Hunt! They explored the Club, matching famous Black leaders, innovators, and changemakers with their bios. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about history while celebrating Black excellence!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, in partnership with Madison Area Builders Association, is continuing the NextGen Builders: Residential Skills Academy! This FREE program is perfect for young adults (16-24) looking to kickstart a career in construction by learning hands-on skills like blueprint reading, tool handling, and safety protocols while gaining valuable experience with industry professionals. The next session runs April 7 – June 27 (Monday – Wednesday: 9:00 AM –12:00 PM, Thursday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM), with flexible schedules ideal for students or recent graduates. Our TECHNICAL SKILLS - SOFTWARE TRAINING & CERTIFICATION CLASS has been hard at work mastering front-end web development, Illustrator, and InDesign! During Thursday’s session, students sharpened their design and coding skills, gaining hands-on experience that will set them up for success in the digital world. Keep up the great work!

The Experiential Learning team hosted 4 events that took place on each Wednesday of February. One a week at each school (La Follette, Memorial, East, West). Students were given information on work permits, we had flyers printed for students with qr codes directly to job applications for a large range of places that are hiring 16+ in Madison. We helped some students through their applications for these jobs, as well. We provided lunch for students and also had a $50 raffle they could enter by showing us their completed job application.
