It’s been a devastating few weeks as the Southeast reckons with the impact of Hurricane Helene. At least 100 Boys & Girls Clubs have been impacted directly by the storm, with over 58,000 Club members living in impacted communities. Families are struggling to survive without?necessities like food and water, and many homes have been damaged or destroyed. ? There are?local Boys & Girls Clubs that have sustained direct damage – and there are others that are opening their doors to offer support. Clubs that are able, are serving?as shelters, aid distribution centers, food pantries and power stations?for the youth and families in their communities.?Some Clubs are?extending hours to ensure families have much-needed support. They have mobilized vans to deliver food to neighborhoods without transportation,?and they’re?partnering with local Red Cross?organizations, schools,?and more?to ensure communities have support.? ? Not all kids have the same access to technology, but Cox Innovation Labs at Boys & Girls Clubs are working to change that. For over 20 years, our partnership with the James M. Cox Foundation and Cox Communications has provided high-speed internet and cutting-edge STEM opportunities to thousands of young people at over 110 Clubs nationwide. 11 Clubs will receive Cox Innovation Labs in 2024, and we have kicked off the celebrations at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County (UBGC) just last week. ?? ?? Through Cox Innovation Labs, kids and teens have access to the tools they need to succeed in school, career, and life—from robotics to digital literacy and beyond.
