Being able to work in the supply chain industry gives me the privilege to see the impacts at a global level, along with local communities.?Recently, I was able to share my viewpoints with other panelists and industry peers on two separate panels?— one at the?BG Strategic Advisors?(BGSA) Supply Chain Conference to discuss the current supply chain landscape and opportunities and the other with the?Nashville Business Journal?to focus on the surge in Williamson County, Tennessee.?At BGSA, the conversation centered around the stabilization of inventory positions to pre-COVID levels and the continued softness of the transportation market. With the Nashville Business Journal, we spoke about the need for Williamson County to grow sustainably in ways that support both corporations and residents. While these topics may seem quite different, they are deeply connected, in that supply chains impact local communities that, in turn, shape supply chains. This hits Chinese shipping giant Cosco. But it also affects non-Chinese shipping companies like A.P. Moller - Maersk and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, who buy from Chinese shipyards. What will Maersk and MSC do? One logical strategic move is to accelerate their diversification into global logistics, ecommerce, and other supply chain services. Both Maersk and MSC have already announced strategic plans to do exactly that.
