Yesterday, we held the last 2023 Beyond Safety Compliance Quarterly webinar with Lizzie Berne deGear on Awe. I must admit - there were a tonne of technical difficulties on my end - from screen sharing not working the way I expected it to, to my computer flickering endlessly during the whole event. Add to this I began the LinkedIn Live early, quit it, and began it again. The original LinkedIn Live was hijacked by a few "services" that put the free webinar behind a paywall! I have reported these posts (not all of them, but each unique one) to LinkedIn - we'll see. If this happens again, there is no need to click on anything in the comments to access the LinkedIn Live - but in future, I might ask you to go to my company page instead of a specific event, so that you can get the overall picture of what is happening and still benefit from the webinar. So, back to the subject of awe and the webinar. 321 people signed up for the webinar and were sent emails, 443 expressed interest on LinkedIn live, 41 people logged into the Zoom call and 10 people stayed to share and be eligible for door prizes. Some of the sharing included: - (unintentionally) training grackles (birds) to cooperate with the smaller songbirds on a bird feeder - that energy (electricity to internal motivation) was common to a group, being a unique connection - how older architecture is more durable, and can inspire awe, in contrast to the temporariness of modern buildings - how a former transport truck driver saw packs of birds joyriding on the jetstream created by his transport truck - how butterflies can be in our view for a time, seemingly communicating with us - how coincidences can be so informative of the connections between everything - how our approach to everything can change when we have the perspective of awe, be it pets, squirrels or activities - how awe can translate to terror or fear in different languages (e.g. Mexican) - how awe (like having a child) is often accompanied with responsibility - how the diversity in our world can inspire tears I may not have captured it all - feel free to add your contribution in the comments!
