?? Upcoming webinar: join BOGA and NDC Partnership on Thursday 6 March,?8am-9am EST | 10am-11am BRT | 2pm-3pm CET | 4pm-5pm EAT. The outcomes of the first Global Stocktake (GST) highlighted the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuels to align with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal. This decade is critical for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and the COP29 outcomes reinforced the call for strengthened NDCs that deliver on the global transition towards clean energy systems and away from fossil fuels. ? Meeting the Paris Agreement goals while avoiding an unnecessarily disruptive transition away requires that governments plan for a managed phase-out of fossil fuel supply and demand. With NDCs 3.0 due to be submitted this year, governments have an opportunity to set ambitious targets across all sectors and mobilize public and private finance for a just transition away from fossil fuels. ? This is the first of two webinars in partnership with the NDC Partnership, which will convene partner governments and institutions to explore how NDCs 3.0 can incorporate ambitious and actionable pathways for fossil fuel phase out. This first webinar will highlight the importance of global leadership on the transition away from fossil fuels and introduce the BOGA Fund’s NDC window. Speakers: - Ali Mohamed, Special Envoy for Climate Change, Office of the President, Kenya - Alice de Moraes Amorim Vogas, Head of COP30 Office, National Secretariat for Climate Change, Brazil? - Christian Stenberg, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Climate, Energy and Public Utilities, Denmark - Alison Campbell,?Director of the Climate Action Team, UN Secretary General’s Office Learn more and register ???: https://lnkd.in/ep9xndYP Sian Bradley Pablo Abba Vieira Samper

关于我们
The Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA) is an international alliance of governments working together to facilitate the managed phase-out of oil and gas production. Launched at COP26 in 2021 and co-chaired by the governments of Denmark and Quebec, the Alliance aims to elevate the issue of oil and gas production phase-out in international climate dialogues, mobilise action and commitments, and create an international community of practice to deliver the phase-out of oil and gas production in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement.

?? Less than two weeks before #COP29 in Baku, and the key question: how to finance the energy and economic transition required to deliver on the Paris Agreement and facilitate a global transition away from fossil fuels? Last week, at the The World Bank International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings, the Beyond Oil & Gas Alliance (BOGA) hosted a roundtable discussion which covered: ?? where and how the global financial architecture presents structural barriers to the transition away from fossil fuels; ? the kinds of systemic risks that an unmanaged, disorderly transition away from fossil fuels might present; ?? the options for enhanced international coordination in support of an orderly, just transition at all levels. The roundtable built on earlier dialogues convened by BOGA, at the World Bank IMF Spring Meetings and New York Climate Action Week (#NYCW24), which explored how to support oil and gas-dependent economies in their just transitions, and how to scale finance the global transition away from fossil fuels. Last week’s discussion focused on the global financial architecture, and the extent to which it helps or hinders transitions. Speakers addressed a range of structural issues, including global debt, tax, and ratings regimes, among others. In each case, their impacts on the global transition away from fossil fuels remain underexplored. Speakers agreed on the urgent need for better understanding on the macroeconomic impacts of the transition and how to manage them, and greater coordination across the global financial architecture - and with reform initiatives such as the? #BridgetownInitiative, the Independent Expert Group on Debt, Nature, and Climate, and the Global Solidarity Levies Task Force - to ensure an orderly, just transition away from fossil fuels. Ten months on from #COP28’s landmark agreement in Dubai, the question of how we establish the enabling conditions required to deliver on GST and its commitment to a global transition away from fossil fuels, remains urgent. Last week’s discussions, and those that BOGA will convene at #COP29, bring us closer to the answers. With thanks to Sarah Bloom-Raskin, Kevin Magron, Emmanuel Guerin, Nick Stern, Vera Songwe, Amar Bhattacharya, and Alison Campbell. #JustTransition #ClimateAction #BeyondOilAndGas #FossilFuelPhaseOut
