Despite what you might hear from anti-mining groups, the Flambeau Mine out of Ladysmith, Wisconsin was a success and is a great example of responsible industry. The Flambeau Mine was a Copper mine and it was located along the shores of the Flambeau River and operated from 1993 to 1997 and finished reclamation by 1999. Flambeau was the first mine to earn permits and operate under Wisconsin’s stringent mining laws. The WDNR holds Flambeau as an example of a successful operation and successful closure. The reclaimed site is now home to acres of wetlands, hundreds of species of plants and animals, miles of hiking trails, and five miles of equestrian trails open to the public year-round. President Trump’s executive order issued Thursday to prioritize domestic critical mineral production is a vital move toward enhancing our national and economic security by reducing dependence on foreign sources. By streamlining permitting, fast-tracking priority projects, and fostering public-private partnerships, this initiative will spur job creation, drive technological innovation, and strengthen the resilience of our supply chain. Boosting U.S. mineral production will help secure the materials needed for transportation, infrastructure, defense, and emerging technologies. Better In Our Back Yard commends the emphasis on utilizing federal lands, expediting permitting, and investing in domestic processing capacity. The U.S. is fortunate to have several proposed mining projects targeting critical minerals, including: ? Twin Metals Minnesota LLC- Targeting Nickel and Cobalt?- Minnesota ? Perpetua Resources - Targeting Antimony - Idaho ? NewRange Copper Nickel’s NorthMet Project - Targeting Nickel and Cobalt - Minnesota ? Bunker Hill Mining- Targeting Zinc - Idaho (Fully Permitted) ? Talon Metals Corp.- Targeting Nickel and Cobalt - Minnesota and Michigan ? Ambler Metals LLC- Targeting Zinc and Cobalt - Alaska ? Guardian Metal Resources - Targeting Tungsten - Nevada ? South32 Hermosa - Targeting Zinc and Manganese - Arizona ? Graphite One Inc. - Targeting Graphite - Alaska To learn more about President Trump’s Executive Order, please visit the link below: https://lnkd.in/ew-3MmZU

Yesterday, President Trump took bold action to enhance America’s self-reliance by invoking emergency powers to strengthen domestic production of critical minerals. His executive order utilizes the Defense Production Act to provide financing and support for new mining and processing projects, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign imports—particularly from China. The initiative?improves?permitting processes without circumventing environmental protections, prioritizes mineral production on federal lands, and promotes public-private partnerships to develop a stable, resilient supply chain. Notably, the White House’s push to expand critical mineral production highlights a focus on boosting domestic copper output. The U.S. is fortunate to have numerous proposed and permitted mining projects across the country, poised to meet the energy demands of tomorrow while safeguarding national security for today. Proposed projects include: Twin Metals Minnesota LLC - Minnesota Resolution Copper - Arizona Pebble Ltd. Partnership's Proposed Mine - Alaska NewRange Copper Nickel’s NorthMet Project - Minnesota Ambler Metals LLC - Alaska Permitted Projects: Arizona Sonoran Copper Company Inc. (ASCU:TSX | ASCUF:OTCQX)’s Cactus Mine - Arizona Highland Copper Company Inc.’s Copperwood Project - Michigan Hudbay Minerals Inc.’ Copper World - Arizona U.S. Gold Corp.'S CK Gold Project - Wyoming Sandfire Resources America Inc's Black Butte Project - Montana Florence Copper's Permitted Copper Project - Arizona Did you know that, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. produced 1.3 million tons of copper in 2022 while consuming 1.9 million tons? If all proposed mining projects were operational today, the U.S. could achieve copper independence based on 2022 consumption levels. At Better In Our Back Yard's 5th Annual Winter Dinner in January, Twin Metals Minnesota’s Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Kathy Graul, and VP of External Relations and Operations, Dean DeBeltz, joined Joshua D. Mellott, Chairman and CEO of Blackline LTD to discuss Twin Metals Minnesota LLC’s proposed copper-nickel-cobalt mine near Ely, MN. “Minnesota has a strong mining history and there’s actually people in Minnesota that don’t know that we still mine. Under modern regulations we can do it right. We can prove that we can do it right. The one thing that stands out to me is the fact that we have the opportunity to not only contribute to the state, to contribute to our nation, but to contribute to the school kids of Minnesota. All the public school kids are beneficiaries of Mining throughout the state.” Dean DeBeltz - VP, External Relations and Operations at Twin Metals Minnesota LLC The team at Twin is dedicated to developing a modern, 21st-century underground mining project in northeastern Minnesota, utilizing cutting-edge technology such as dry stack tailings management. The project is designed to responsibly mine strategic metals vital for national defense, long-term economic stability, and the advancement of emerging technologies. The project’s anticipated economic impact would be historic for Minnesota's Iron Range, projecting to create: ? 750 permanent jobs ?1,500 indirect jobs ?Nearly?$3 billion?in private investments ?Increased revenue for Minnesota’s Permanent School Trust Fund To learn more about Twin Metals, visit: https://lnkd.in/ezXQazS

In Case You Missed It! KJJZ Radio out of Phoenix, AZ recently aired a compelling segment on Resolution Copper’s proposed mine in Superior, AZ, featuring an interview with their President and GM, Vicky Peacey. According to the IEF - International Energy Forum, up to 194 new large copper mines will be needed over the next three decades to meet the demands of a growing clean energy economy. Resolution Copper is poised to help meet this demand with its proposed project, which aims to extract 40 billion pounds of copper—enough to supply a quarter of the nation’s annual copper needs. Beyond its mineral output, the project offers a once-in-a-generation economic boost: creating approximately 1,500 direct jobs, generating $270 million in annual wages, and contributing around $300 million in yearly tax revenue to Arizona. Despite facing political challenges and a lengthy permitting process, Resolution Copper remains committed to responsible mining. The company has already invested over $2 billion in development and permitting efforts, while building strong partnerships with local governments, nonprofits, and tribal communities. "It's a very good piece of legislation. I anticipate that it's going to pass in a bipartisan fashion again and we continue to move forward with the process." Congressman Pete Stauber of MN's Eighth District Thank you to Congressman Stauber for joining Better In Our Back Yard's Ryan Sistad to discuss the recently reintroduced Superior National Forest Restoration Act. This bill aims to reverse the Biden Administration’s mineral withdrawal of 225,000 acres in Northeast Minnesota, reopening the region to significant mining opportunities. Northeast Minnesota is home to the world’s largest known undeveloped deposit of copper, nickel, cobalt, and platinum group metals—critical resources for our nation’s energy independence and national security. First introduced in May 2023, the Superior National Forest Restoration Act advanced through the House Natural Resources Committee and passed the U.S. House with bipartisan support in April of last year.
