On February 12th the Carter School Peace Fellows met with students from ?????? Sungkyunkwan University to participate in the "Stop Hate, Start Change!" convergence project. We learned about conflict resolution practices and discussed how we can stop hate in our communities. Through this cross-cultural project between American and Korean students, we brainstormed solutions and built international bonds.

Curating useful and impactful evidence to inform peacemaking practice
关于我们
The Better Evidence Project (BEP) connects the most useful evidence developed by scholars and practitioners with other practitioners, policymakers, donors, and scholars who seek evidence-based insights to guide their work. BEP works to address gaps in the knowledge base in the field of conflict resolution and makes available existing evidence to those working to prevent war. The Better Evidence Project’s mission is to identify and make accessible multiple types of resources that influence policy and action, and ensure resources are allocated effectively. The BEP team investigates, curates, and synthesizes knowledge and practice while also facilitating connections between academics and practitioners to exchange ideas and lessons learned. The Better Evidence Project is housed in the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. Through its Resource Center, the Better Evidence Project curates and consistently updates a wide array of evidence-based materials. This enables practitioners, donors, and policymakers to strengthen their efforts to end wars, prevent armed conflicts, and build sustainable peace.

?? Last week, the Better Evidence Project had the privilege of hosting a dynamic group of university students from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, for a convergence project focused on conflict resolution, #peacebuilding, social change, and #technology. The program brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds to explore key themes such as conflict, identity, relationship building, and the broader role of technology in peacebuilding. The goal was to foster conflict resolution skills for common ground and make the most of cross-cultural exchanges. ?? A highlight of the program was the engaging interactions between students from George Mason University and Sungkyunkwan University, alongside the essential tools and insights shared by faculty and staff members from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. They demonstrate the evolving role of #human connections, #innovative ideas, and the incorporation of technology in modern peacebuilding. The students were enthusiastic and eager to absorb new knowledge during these sessions, facilitated dialogues, and the many enriching conversations. This program, made possible through the partnership between the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University School and Sungkyunkwan University, along with the dedication of the Better Evidence Project team, proved to be a success. It was truly inspiring to witness the students’ commitment to fostering open discussions around different pressing subjects. ?? Their enthusiasm for promoting peace and building cross-cultural understanding was evident, and we look forward to offering more training opportunities that can reach an international audience!

On this New Year’s Day, I want to join the international community in remembering President Jimmy Carter. He redefines the meaning of retirement and his post-presidential life is a testament to the power of service. His tireless peacebuilding efforts and decades of work on disease eradication/prevention resonate with Rotary. During Carter’s presidency, he met with three Rotary International presidents at the White House. Currently, Rotary International is in partnership with the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University to provide education and help Rotary clubs promote peace at local and global levels. "I have always looked with admiration and sometimes envy at Rotary International, and I've traveled all over. [My wife] Rosalynn and I have been in more than 100 countries. Almost everywhere we go, we see evidence of volunteerism among lay, non-governmental leaders inspired by Rotary and the opportunity to invest a portion of their time, knowledge, and experience in improving their own communities.” —June 1994 Rotary magazine interview (https://lnkd.in/eSBnhPfH)

An article that Jeffrey Helsing and I wrote a while back is finally out and published in the new The Routledge Handbook of Conflict and Peace Communication. In it, we discuss the work of the Better Evidence Project and the role of #evidence, #learning, and #knowledgesharing as a way to create more impactful engagement and linking evidence to practice.
