Selling something that doesn't exist is fraud, and today's news is sad but hopefully can lead to something better. As saying goes: bright lights show what was hiding in the dark, and also illuminate the way forward. The advice of experts can help bring more integrity faster to the #vcm. Daniel Kammen's colleagues at University of California, Berkeley created this incredibly useful website https://lnkd.in/gVH7A-P8 to show project developers and buyers how to create and purchase high integrity carbon credits from cookstove projects. We followed their advice, and became BeZero Carbon's only "A" rated cookstove project, and one of the top 7% globally across all technology and methodologies. Glad to know the fraudsters are being flushed out, so the vital work of so many people on #cleancooking can move forward.

Delighted to see that Ecosafi, the Better Cooking Company is among the top 7% of all carbon credit projects rated worldwide by BeZero Carbon. That's across all approaches and methodologies, including DAC, CDR, etc. As the only "A" rated cookstove project (meaning a "high likelihood of achieving 1 tonne of CO?e avoided or removed"), buyers of our emission reductions can have confidence they're getting the impact they want, by helping us deliver cleaner air and less deforestation. We're happy to be contributing to a VCM with integrity, transparency, and verifiability.

When we started our work, we made a big bet that focusing on quality - in our product, our service, and our carbon credits - would help set us apart. Today, that bet continues to pay off. We are excited to announce another huge achievement for our team. EcoSafi has been assigned the first-ever @BeZero Carbon ‘A’ Rating for a cookstove project?– representing a firm belief that our credits have a "high likelihood" of achieving an actual emission reduction in the real world. This is the highest rating that ratings agency BeZero has ever assigned to a project in the cookstoves sector. Most cookstoves have only reached ‘B’ status, with a low likelihood of estimated impact. This hasn’t exactly inspired trust in the carbon market for the cooking sector, and rightfully so. Now, with EcoSafi’s A rating, buyers will know they are getting the quality that they paid for. This is another major step in helping to build greater trust in the market through high-integrity credits. But we also know to reach the scale the moment demands, the clean cooking sector needs to unlock the full impact potential of the carbon markets –?an area where experts have rightly been skeptical. That’s why we’re so proud to share a major milestone for EcoSafi. Today, we are announcing the first-ever carbon credits in Africa issued under Gold Standard’s high-integrity MECD methodology. Gold Standard is recognized as having the most robust measurements in the industry, and the MECD methodology in particular is Gold Standard’s most stringent. It links the calculation of carbon credits directly to metrics like stove use and fuel sales. We then "topped up" their requirements with additional proving, like 100% individual baseline surveys. We’ve built this type of carbon verification into our product and business model so we can prove this level of accuracy pays off in the form of high-quality, high-integrity carbon credits. At EcoSafi, we're proud work alongside others in the clean cooking industry to build a stronger market for impact, founded on trust and transparency.
