Year 3 delivering a keynote on belonging at work for Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)!
It’s hard out there in these streets (and these lakes, forests, wetlands, and conservation lands) as a government employee these days. Public pressure. Political challenges. Climate crises. Hazardous work conditions. Yet, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) continues to show up—not just for our environment but for each other. And you’d think turnover would be high—but it’s not. Why? Because they invest in culture. For years, WI DNR has prioritized belonging—not as a buzzword, but as a real, intentional commitment to making their workplace one where people?feel valued, understood and?can?thrive. Last week marked my third year delivering the keynote to kick off their annual investment in belonging. We explored the 4 C’s that make a workplace feel like home: ???Commitment?to fostering a culture where everyone belongs ???Comfort?(psychological safety) to show up authentically ???Connection?to each other and their shared mission ???Contribution—appreciating the unique value everyone brings Much like a thriving ecosystem, belonging doesn’t just?happen—it’s cultivated. And WI DNR keeps doing the work, year after year. Shoutout to?Carrie Wilson, Michael Thompson and the entire WI DNR team for leading with purpose and heart. I'm honored to be part of your journey. Here’s to year 3 and many more! #Belonging #CultureMatters #Leadership #EmployeeEngagement #WisconsinDNR
