This Resume bullet got a big reaction from me! ? "Represented company (while 7 months pregnant!) at NASDAQ bell-ringing ceremony.” I’ve been working with Jessie Wick as she transitions from #Chief of Staff to independent business #consultant. Jessie and I met through the Morrison Foerster alumni network, when she was employed at Cue Health. Now that she’s on the journey to #entrepreneurship, it's time to update her Resume and LinkedIn. ?? During #Resume coaching, I go line-by-line and job-by-job with my clients. We add specificity. We make every line tight and impactful. We include metrics (ie. $, #, %) whenever possible. We re-order bullets from most important to least. So when I saw this bullet as the TOP bullet on her Resume, it struck me. $2.3B #IPO, S-1, corporate diligence, NASDAQ…and 7 months pregnant?!?! I couldn’t help but share my own pregnancy story with Jessie and, in the telling, it hit me just how drastically things have changed. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I was up for a promotion — a big one — and I knew that if I announced my pregnancy, there was no way I would be promoted. It wasn’t just a worry. It was a fact. My promotion had been talked about and promised, but my boss was in no rush. But I was! I was in my 6th month, wearing flowing skirts and huge blazers to “hide” every day. I finally got the promotion. And the very next day announced my pregnancy. When I read Jessie’s Resume, I was blown away by the fact that she could own it - that she could be a rockstar #corporate executive ringing that #NASDAQ bell with nothing to hide. ? Not only did we leave this fact on her Resume. But now it has it’s own bullet! #ExecutiveCoach #biotech #Lawyers #Attorneys #MBAs #WomenLeaders

?? The results are in -- and I’m incredibly proud of this community. Since over 75% of my LinkedIn connections are people I’ve coached, they are wise to the power of a recent headshot! ?? I posted a poll asking how recently you updated your headshot. The winner, with 51%, was “less than 3 years ago.” And that is the right amount of time! ?? A new headshot is one of the greatest algorithm teases on LinkedIn. A new headshot helps you come up higher in searches. Yes, a new headshot can be a #gamechanger. If you are looking for a #newjob or a #Board position…if you work in #sales or in business development…update it! If you haven’t updated your #headshot since 2020, pre-Covid, now is the time. 43% of poll respondents updated 5-6 years ago. And 6% still have their original. Hopefully this post will inspire you! I’ve taken your words to heart, Amy. ??Amy Cuddy concludes her TEDTalk with this: “I want to ask you to?share the science, because this is simple. I don’t have ego involved in this. Give it away. Share it with people!” Over 9 years, I have led over 25 “Confidence & Success” workshops around the world. And I just locked in my next 2 workshops for this Fall in New Jersey and Los Angeles. I'm thinking about the evolution of this workshop because I recently ran into Stephen Sherman and was amazed (and happy!) to hear that he still power poses. Steve attended my “Confidence & Success” workshop?at Winston & Strawn LLP back in 2016. As the former president of the ACC National Capital Region, he's a frequent public speaker. The fact that he still utilizes the tools I shared really touched me. I remember that day because it was one of my earliest solo events and, at the time, the biggest! Expertly organized and promoted by Gita Budd and Sue Budd, it brought together Winston & Strawn LLP attorneys and Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management and Northwestern University alumni. I first learned about Power Posing and Amy Cuddy's groundbreaking research during a return-to-work bootcamp I ran for iRelaunch in 2014. When working with relaunchers — or anyone who has taken a career break — a common issue is debilitating lack of confidence and imposter syndrome. One of my bootcamp clients shared the TED Conferences TEDTalk with me. Soon after, I developed an early-version “Confidence & Success” workshop with the inspiration of Kathleen Butler Smith for morphmom. At the time, Amy Cuddy’s TEDTalk “Your body language may shape who you are,” had 13MM views...and that seemed like a lot. Today, it has 71,986,445 views!! Yes, almost 72MM views — which makes it the 2nd most watched TEDTalk of all time. I’ve now shared the science with #lawyers, #MBAs, #undergrads, high school students and 1000s of my clients. Through guided demonstrations, I help people experience how easy, empowering, and effective #PowerPosing can be for so much of what we do: #negotiations, #presentations, job #interviews and everyday life. ???I’ve just been named a Top Coach of 2024 by The Upside! I love what I do, and I’m glad that it shows. Awards and accolades are nice. But what really makes me proud is the impact — the impact of having my own consulting business, the impact of scaling that business in 2020, and the impact on the thousands of people I’ve helped. These past few years have been a wild ride - challenging, exhilarating, and constantly pushing me to learn and grow. It's interesting for me to reflect on building my career coaching business over these past 14 years. I started by coaching MBA alumni and now the majority of my clients are actually lawyers! Also fascinating, I’m coaching a record number of young professionals in their 20s…college grads who were negatively affected by the lack of recruiting and training during the Covid years. Yes, economic factors and social changes are ?? reflected in my coaching practice - and no 2 years have been the same. I try to channel my years of knowledge and experience to enable my clients to have the tools and confidence to know career advancement is in their hands. The quote is real: “Where your focus goes, energy flows.” ?? I feel lucky to work with some of the best clients and partners I could ever ask for! I'm grateful for this recognition of my work. ?? New season, new headshot? When I meet a new client, the first thing I do is check their LinkedIn - of course! My experience last week inspired this LinkedIn post. I worked with a corporate client and coached various #Tech executives. Of the new clients I met, not a single person had a current headshot. The most recent was from 3 years ago, and the oldest photo was from 22 years ago. I am forever encouraging my clients to update their LinkedIn headshots. Not only does it optimize the LinkedIn algorithm (a lot!!), but it also ensures that you actually look like the person in that photo. [We've all had the experience of having someone join a ZOOM looking very much un-like their LinkedIn photo.] Some of the funny, memorable, and surprising LinkedIn headshots that I've encountered with new clients include: --The college LAX player (now a SVP at a PE firm) whose headshot was clearly from his team photo after a game. What gave it away? The helmet. --The relaunching mom (aspiring to return to corporate) who was dressed in an off-the-shoulder sequin dress and holding a martini. What gave it away? The reflection from the mirror behind her. --The lawyer (Associate GC, age 39) who still had his fraternity picture (age 21) as his LinkedIn headshot. What gave it away? The wide striped tie in his school colors. All of these choices were probably the wrong ones for LinkedIn. The best headshots are ones that show you as your professional self. What setting and clothing best reflects the work that you do? LinkedIn headshots are an important topic for me and many of my clients. Please take a quick moment to answer this survey.
