BETA is bringing its municipal expertise to northern New England with the redesign of the Wire Road and US Route 3 intersection in Merrimack, NH. Our traffic and roadway teams are working together to improve safety and efficiency at this busy corridor, where skewed angles and high traffic volumes create turning challenges. Currently in design, the project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by adding sidewalks along US Route 3 and evaluating solutions such as roadway realignment, signalization, and a two-lane roundabout. With state and federal support through the Highway Safety Improvement Program, these improvements will create a safer, more accessible roadway for all users. https://lnkd.in/enkkzcnD

BETA’s transportation and traffic engineers regularly design intersection solutions that enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and accommodate all roadway users – including bicyclists, pedestrians, and motor vehicles. Our Union Avenue Roadway Improvements project in Framingham is a recent example of how thoughtful design can transform high-crash locations into safer, more efficient corridors. To improve safety and mobility, BETA implemented geometric upgrades, a new roundabout, and updated traffic signals at historically dangerous intersections. These enhancements, along with full-depth pavement reconstruction, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and streetscape improvements, align with MassDOT’s Healthy Transportation Policy and the City’s Complete Streets goals.
