This week, I was honored to be a guest speaker at the monthly meeting of Beta Gamma Sigma UT Arlington, the collegiate chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society at The University of Texas at Arlington - College of Business. I felt privileged to meet an impressive group of young women leading the chapter, including its president, Lorraine Raymundo, a soon-to-be alumna, like me, from the University of Texas Arlington - MS in Marketing Research program, Mira McCoy, who will soon also graduate with a master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Sandya Magar, who is majoring in finance, and Kathryn Trout who is pursuing an MBA. Beta Gamma Sigma is an international business honor society that recognizes and honors top-performing students. These are the top 10% of undergraduate students, the top 20% of graduate students, and all doctoral candidates who have successfully defended a dissertation at an AACSB-accredited business school. BGS was founded in 1913, and it has over 980,000 members, selected from more than 600 collegiate chapters in business schools accredited by the AACSB. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) only accredits top business schools, the top 5% of business school programs in the US and around the world (190 countries). Students can only join by invitation based on academic achievement. So, when you meet them, you can be confident they have committed to learning about critical areas of business, from market research, marketing, human resources, accounting, and finance to business management. So, this is a big honor! ?? ?? I was inducted into the BGS as a Marketing Research program (MSMR) graduate student at The University of Texas at Arlington over 20 years ago. I feel so proud that an MSMR student is leading the chapter now. The dedication to learning how research should be done to guide business decisions is worth acknowledgment! ?? ?? The UTA’s chapter is fortunate to have professor Faye K. Cocchiara, PhD, ACUE, SPHR, as its advisor and liaison to the College of Business.
