We are excited to announce that Beta Financial Services has been chosen to join the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund 2024. The Google for Startups Founders Fund is an initiative created by Google to support growth-stage AI and cloud-focused tech startups led by Black and Latino founders. Growing up, our founder and CEO Seke Ballard saw his father's successful logging company repeatedly denied loans, highlighting the systemic discrimination against underrepresented entrepreneurs in traditional banking. Inspired to create more inclusive pathways to business success, Seke partnered with data scientists and used 1.2 million SBA loan records to develop a predictive model to accurately assess credit risk. This evolved into BetaScore, a modern small business credit score built on Google Cloud that provides transparency for lenders and SMBs alike. We hope that our BetaScore will inspire all financial institutions to rethink their lending practices and create a more equitable system for all.
