Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to almost 1,500 middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States, and in 50 countries around the world. Best Buddies’ 8 formal programs – Best Buddies Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Citizens, e-Buddies, Jobs, Ambassadors and Promoters – positively impact nearly 700,000 individuals with and without disabilities worldwide. Best Buddies volunteers annually contribute, at no cost to their communities, support services that equate to more than $155.2 million USD. As a result of their involvement with Best Buddies, people with IDD secure rewarding jobs, live on their own, become inspirational leaders, and make lifelong friendships.

Happy #WorkplaceWednesday! Meet Amanda, a Custodial Specialist with our incredible partner, Los Angeles Habilitation House (LAHH)! ?? Amanda joined the team in July and is thriving as part of the crew cleaning the Harbor Regional Center offices in Torrance. She takes immense pride in her work, spreading joy with her infectious positivity, bright smile, and enthusiastic greetings on her work walkie-talkie ?? ? We are proud to celebrate our partnership with LAHH, which employs two other Best Buddies Jobs participants at the Coast Guard Base! ?? ?Guido (pictured right) and Nancy, directors of the organization, took their support of our mission one step further, serving as Champion of the Year candidates last fall. Introducing our Volunteer of the Month, Christopher Luebke ?? Though he recently moved from California to Oregon, Christopher made a lasting difference during his time with Best Buddies in Sacramento. As an Education Specialist in the San Juan Unified School District and a Best Buddies Advisory Board member, he championed inclusive practices and helped expand our programs to approximately seven schools and counting! ? At this year’s Leadership Conference, Christopher (right) and his wife Dr. Jennifer Camota Luebke (second from right) met with our senior leadership team about the curriculum for two pilot Best Buddies elective classes within the district.
