Our latest research upends traditional ideas about urban environments. ?? The data from our client's beehives proves something unexpected: despite having more habitat fragmentation, urban and suburban habitats are, in fact, equally diverse. As our databases grow and sustainable movements continue, there's still so much to understand about how honey bees can guide our efforts to conserve and promote biodiversity. Want to know how we can leverage this new data to build cities where all pollinators can thrive? It's time to address a persistent myth about honey bees. ?? Critics label honey bees as invasive species, but this oversimplifies a complex reality. After 400 years in North America, honey bees stand as established non-native species, and as integrated members of our ecosystem. True invasive species cause ecological or economic harm. Honey bees do the opposite. They deliver essential pollination services and strengthen our economy. Like the cities we build and the gardens we plant, they form part of our evolving environmental story. Plus, they are powerful research resources. Think of each hive as an environmental monitoring station where we can track: 1?? Environmental pollution effects 2?? Climate change indicators 3?? Habitat loss patterns 4?? Plant species presence and biodiversity The widespread presence, measurable responses to change, and the dependence on ecosystem health of honey bees make them perfect bioindicators. This data helps protect all pollinators—both native and non-native. The real story isn't about competition. It's about what honey bees can tell us about creating healthier environments for every species. #Pollinators #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #InvasiveSpecies #EnvironmentalResearch #eDNA #HoneyBees

From street level to skyline: Our beehives at the Chrysler Building just made The New York Times!??? Denmark In New York chose rooftop beekeeping for a clear reason: connecting their team with nature. For their 100 employees, these hives offer daily reminders of sustainability in action. Our beekeepers Matt Flood and Titus Ogilvie-Laing shared insights about maintaining hives in iconic Manhattan locations. As noted by our Creative Director Paige Mulhern, more businesses are discovering how urban beekeeping enhances their sustainability initiatives and employee experience while boosting biodiversity in their local environments. The trend is clear. From the Chrysler Building to Madison Square Garden, companies are turning unused spaces into vibrant ecosystems, and we’re thrilled to help them tell this story. Our latest HoneyDNA research reveals surprising insights about urban biodiversity and where bees actually thrive. ?? When analyzing honey from client beehives, we found that most samples taken from urban beehives showed signs of habitat fragmentation. Here's why it matters. ?? The insights in our latest feat of pollinator research give us a clearer path toward supporting pollinators in both urban and suburban environments. In this instance, we see the impact resource accessibility has on bees in cities. Armed with this information, we can transform our built environments into places where pollinators can thrive. ?? Plants aren't the only things fighting climate change. ?? ?? Pollinators like bees do much more than make honey and support food production. They're essential climate defenders. Here's what bees accomplish. ?? ? Pollinate 75% of U.S. fruits, nuts, and vegetables ? Enable seed production for thousands of flowering plants ? Support carbon-sequestering ecosystems ? Prevent soil erosion through plant preservation When bees pollinate, they strengthen forests, grasslands, prairies, and wetlands. These plants trap carbon in their trunks and roots while nurturing soil biodiversity. The result? More climate-resilient ecosystems. ??
