To protect and preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the Berkshires, for public benefit and enjoyment.
关于我们
What does the Earth ask of us?”? Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass Founded in 1967, Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) is a nationally accredited, regional land trust working to conserve, protect and preserve the natural beauty, ecological integrity and climate health of the Berkshire region of New England for public benefit and enjoyment. With an eye on our shared future, BNRC cares for the land and connects people with nature. ?Public access to BNRC reserves and programs is always free, so we can all learn about, experience and care for our shared environment. ? BNRC currently cares for over 26,000 acres of conserved land in Berkshire County and regularly partners with state, municipal, local, indigenous, and nonprofit entities to conserve and steward many times that land area throughout the region.?This land, and all the present-day Berkshires, are the ancestral homeland of the Mohican people, who were forcibly displaced to Wisconsin by European colonization. These lands continue to be of great significance to the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation today. BNRC values and promotes public access, recreation, education, and connection. BNRC’s Community Conservation program provides a year-round slate of free public programs and invites all community members to visit BNRC reserves; enjoy the trails and beautiful natural places; join a guided hike, family, educational or wellness program; become an accomplished community scientist; or take advantage of one of BNRC’s many volunteer opportunities. BNRC programs help our community discover the benefits of nature for the body, mind, and spirit. Together, we explore the wonder of the living things that surround us and find joy in restoring and caring for our home. ?

Tomorrow is the International Day for Biological Diversity. Biological diversity, or biodiversity, refers to having many different types of life (plant, animal, bacteria, people). This is essential to the health of the planet. One way that BNRC supports biodiversity within the Berkshires is conserving land that creates larger areas of connected lands, allowing life to move and adapt to changing conditions. Land conservation does not happen without you. You can support BNRC, conservation, and biodiversity with a gift at bnrc.org/donate.? ? #bnrc #intheberkshires? ? ??Ancestral Lands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation. Great news! The Nature Conservancy recently awarded $1.2 million in grants to land trusts and organizations across seven states, including Massachusetts, to advance 27 projects to permanently protect resilient and connected lands in pivotal landscapes. Grants of up to $50,000 were awarded through the Resilient and Connected Appalachians Grant Program, part of TNC’s larger Connectivity, Climate and Communities Fund, to address challenges and barriers in the way of connecting a large network of resilient landscapes in the Appalachians for the long-term benefit of the people, communities and our planet. Congratulations to all recipients! ?? ?? Massachusetts awardees include the Berkshire Natural Resources Council, Kestrel Land Trust, Franklin Land Trust and Mass Audubon. “Have you seen a moose in the Berkshires? I haven’t, yet, but I am always watching out for them. They come down from Maine and Vermont from time to time, and they can travel safely because the forest is connected all the way down—they have to cross a few roads, but mostly they can stay hidden in the woods. (I have it on good authority that sometimes, a mountain lion passes through too.)” Read more from BNRC President Jenny Hansell in her latest blog at https://lnkd.in/eQjG873H Support BNRC at bnrc.org/donate ??? #bnrc #intheberkshires ??Ancestral Lands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation.
