Alongside MEXODUS co-writer Brian Quijada, Nygel will co-host Berkeley Rep’s Ovation Gala on March 29th. #DidYouKnow that when MEXODUS premiered at Berkeley Rep as this season’s opener, it marked the first time a play included #livelooping on our stages? Though Nygel D. Robinson is a playwright, he prefers the term “Artist.” In an interview with Shoutout LA, he said, "I use the word ‘Artist’ to describe myself because I do a lot of things. Davis’ unique musicality and versatility are key to her transformative voice in theater. #DidYouKnow Eisa Davis is a Berkeley native and will be honored at Berkeley Rep’s Ovation Gala on March 29th? Most recently, Eisa co-created the WARRIORS Concept Album in collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda. American Theatre Magazine has praised her "hip wordplay." Her play, BULRUSHER, staged by Berkeley Rep in 2023, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and won a commission to be adapted into an opera, which premiered with Oakland’s West Edge Opera in 2024. #BlackPlaywrights #OvationGala #discoveredinberkeley

In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, Berkeley Rep celebrates the success of playwright Christina Anderson, who won the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Award in 2023. The award recognizes playwrights whose works have been produced in the U.S. but not yet in New York like 'the ripple, the wave that carried me home', which Berkeley Rep presented in 2022. #DidYouKnow Christiana Clark, who currently on stage in THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH, played the role of Janice in 'the ripple, the wave that carried me home'? The play is a powerful story that explores the history of public pools in America and the politics of segregation and swimming.

Two openings this month? ? It was incredible to welcome our community back this week for the opening of UNCLE VANYA! This time, we gathered in the Medak Studio—our newest space and future black box theatre—for our first-ever opening night reception in this work-in-progress venue. There was something special about seeing donors, community partners, staff, and the artists behind this incredible piece come together in a space that will soon foster new work through public workshops and beyond. Events like this remind us of the possibilities ahead and the incredible support that makes them happen.
