We'd like to congratulate the recipient of the 2025 Bergmeyer Scholarship + Experience in collaboration with PAVE Global, Thi Vuong of California State University, Long Beach! Bergmeyer has had the privilege of partnering with PAVE and talented design students for a decade through the annual Bergmeyer x PAVE Scholarship and Mentoring experience. The 10th annual Bergmeyer x PAVE Scholarship Experience recognizes and supports leadership potential in interior design, industrial design, architecture, and graphic design through a $2,500 scholarship plus an opportunity to participate in an immersive in-person learning and mentorship experience with some of the industry's top designers at Bergmeyer. In Thi's thoughtful response, she highlighted how retail spaces can foster community connections. Thi shared a compelling vision of how thoughtfully designed environments "can become a hub for creativity and local pride, hosting events and showcasing artisans, making neighborhoods more vibrant and connected." Her perspective on retail's potential as a community catalyst resonated with our team and reflected the innovative thinking we hope to nurture through this scholarship program. The built environment is by some estimates responsible for 42% of global carbon emissions, making #sustainable design more urgent than ever. Yet too often, sustainability is treated as an add-on rather than a core principle of #architecture and #construction. ??? It was great to interview Bergmeyer | B Corp? CEO Rachel Zsembery, AIA, LEED AP and Director of CSR Peter Nobile to learn how Bergmeyer is taking a different approach. As a design collaborative rather than a traditional architecture firm, they aim to break down silos between disciplines to be able to embed sustainability in everything from material selection to adaptive reuse. Their work also shows that the most sustainable building is often the one that already exists, balancing historic preservation with modern energy efficiency. ??
